It hasn't been clarified yet, but most people think NMCs will need protection. As teams shouldn't be rewarded for handing out nmcs like candy.

I think all NMCs will need protection.

Our risk is losing one of Gravel or Forbort. other than that we don't have many attractive pieces unless they want Gaborik to get to the cap floor (which isn't smart through the expansion draft )

yup. we are set up pretty good.

I wish the expansion team would take Gaborik but I doubt he will

yup, but for LA it hink it will make more sense to do the 8. Even if the 4 d includes Gravel or Forbort

I don't think anybody knows what the 2 year rule applies to yet, 2 NHL years or just to 2 NA pro years. If it's the former, they wouldn't have to protect either.

I just hope we resign Versteeg. I think we can get him under $3 million on a three or four year deal. He is exactly the type of player this team needs - fast and good skill set. He would be perfect with Andreoff and maybe Clifford on the third line. His salary can be offset by trading King for picks. I can see Steeg getting at least 15 goals next year and also helping Andreoff get about 15.

Pearson-Kopitar-Gaborik
Brown-Carter-Toffoli
Clifford-Andreoff-Steeg
Mersch/Dowd/Shore/Nolan

I wouldnt mind offloading Clifford for picks as well becuase he is overpaid at $1.6 million, but I dont see any team taking him.

I'd rather spend that money on the blue line than drop close to ~$3MM for the pleasure of rolling out that offensive line-up.

Also would not want more than one year, two years MAX on Versteeg. Ideally a one year deal signed in late July after all other options are gone.

Clifford is actually a good deal since he can play all 3 forward positions.
For his cap he is a perfect safety net for anyone getting hurt anyplace in the bottom 6.
He might not produce offensively but he isn't a defensive liability.

I have a feeling if Lucic bails the Kings will give Mersch a hard look.

King-Kopitar-Gaborik
Mersch-Carter-Toffoli
Pearson-Shore-Brown
Andreoff/Clifford-Dowd-Nolan

This spreads out the size and speed. Though, I have a feeling 1-2 guys will be dealt.

And then we can trade him to Chicago at the TDL.

From Lucic to King, no drop off in production there. Then Mersch jumps Pearson, without earning an ounce of ice time, just handed to him. Handed to him by a coach who does NOT hand kids ice time, never has, never will. Imagine being Pearson and being told by Sutter everything you've done at the NHL level means nothing and this kid who scored 11 goals in the AHL last year is gonna take your spot-because he might be good or something. Ludicrous.

That is actually a balanced lineup. Its not about who takes over whose spot. Pearson is obviously a better player than Mersch right now, but Sutter is all about spreading the talent. To be competitve for the cup you need three solid scoring lines. Pearson can still end up with more ice time if Sutter gives him PP and PK time, and also if he mixes things up during certain points in the game. If we don't resign Lucic or Versteeg, I like that lineup.

That line-up is balanced to score two goals per game.

King ruins the "top" line.
Mersch is an unknown
Maniacal laughter on this side of the computer expecting that 3rd line to generate any offense with Shore and Brown on it.
4th line is fine.

So we mostly maintain a non-scoring Bottom 6 while rolling out a Top 6 with a non-scoring LW1 and a slower skating rookie LW2?

I am not a big King fan, but he doesn't ruin the top 2 lines. He is good at cycling the puck and creates opportunities. I agree Mersch is an unknown, but with Carter and Toffoli on the line, and his knack for going to the front of the net like Lucic, he can probably pot 10 goals.

With respect to the third line, I would consider having AA center that line with Pearson and Brown. I could see us getting at least 10 by AA and possibly 15-20 from Pearson. Brown, not sure, but he is good for up to 10 per season lately. Not bad for a third line.

It's going to be really exciting to see a slower Kings lineup next season. Think of all the fun we'll have seeing them trapped in their own zone and how often they'll keep the puck pinned along the boards.

That's not the line up I want that's the line up I think the Kings will put out.

You need to spread size and speed. Right now Pearson is one of the fastest and I don't see a third line of King-Shore-Brown or Mersch-Shore-Brown.

Brown messes up the entire line up and I hope he is dealt. Him, King and Mersch are all big slower physical top 9 forwards. The only speed is Pearson and Gaborik on the wing.

The fastest King, Lewis is going to walk and likely be replaced on the 3rd line RW by Brown. Sad.

Yeah, I should have been clear also. That's not the ideal lineup, but what we should likely expect. As much as I want a big blockbuster this summer, I have a feeling that we will have the same team for the start of the season, but with maybe one or two C or B+ signings/trades (one of which I hope is Versteeg at least). I also think we are going to have an Erhoff type patch on defense, as the likes of Trouba and Barrie are likely impossible.

Brown might have stone hands but he's anything but slow.

Too bad he can't skate past opposing defenders though because of how often he loses control of the puck, falls down, or does his trademark "curl" around that usually results in a turnover.

He may not be slow but he's a terrible skater.

hey man. stop being realistic. god!

Barring the addition of a legit Top 4 defenseman, that is a realistic line-up for missing the playoffs.

Too slow. If that's what they are thinking, then might as well put Kempe in the lineup OR he would be a call-up during the season as that lineup desperately needs his speed.

The posted line-up at LW1 and 2 screams "Matt Frattin".
