I was just looking over some past trades, and was looking at the Boston deals. Lucic and Hamilton traded on the same day for similar returns. I know Hamilton had a pretty average year for the flames, but did we get the wrong guy?

Weren't there some character issues with Hamilton? Seems like no one had anything nice to say about him once he left Boston.

Define "Monster". I think he will have an improved season but his best days are still well behind him.

I would dare to guess that's what is pissing Sutter and Lombardi off.

They have been harping for him to go back to his old simple game (hitting everything in sight and crashing the net).

Instead he thinks he is a skilled playmaking forward that belongs on the perimeter. Seems like he doesn't want to go back to what made him successful. We saw glimpses of his game last season but he would just go back to being on the perimeter and turning it over in no mans land.

He will never be a 30-30 guy as his days in the PP are done. But if he could get to 20 goals on the third line, it would provide the depth scoring we need.

20 goals on the 3rd line?
What team are you watching?:sarcasm:
All our top 6 don't even get that most years. :help:

Lucic is/was a great fit but fitting him into the cap was always going to be an issue, just like Sekera.

Guys don't take big discounts to come back to teams that don't make the playoffs or get blown out in five games.

Signing Gaborik was no problem because the guy left Ohio to go to LA and won a Cup. Regher was no problem. Carter being stoked to be here after his trade wasn't a problem. Toffoli took a huge discount. Even signing Penner wasn't a problem and he took only a one year deal.

A lot easier to pitch discounts and whatnot when the pitch is to play for a perennial contender. DL made two deals where he bet on the team winning with said winning providing him some high cards at the poker table in the off-season.

He didn't have a good hand last off-season and he has a poorer hand this off-season. Why should someone give up ~3 years of guaranteed $6MM+ per to play for this current incarnation of the Kings when their only experience is getting blasted in five games by a rival, especially if they already have their name on the Cup?

Get those checks, baby. These guys only have so many bites at the apple and most guys in Milan's age range aren't taking a discount on a contract at this stage of their career.

Carter's deal was signed when he was a Flyer

And Kopitar's deal has the max spread you can have. 50% over the total contract.
If you want one of the most extreme examples that would be Weber's contract. Where is starts at 14M a year and ends with 1M for the final 3. To come in just under 8M on cap hit.

Weber's deal is going to be very very bad in 3 years. He still has 10 years at a cap hit north of $7M and is 30 years old and starting to regress.

consistently getting 15 goals and 20 assists would be a good start.

He still managed to put up a 50 point season and that was without him having to be the guy to score.
I think that deal isn't going to get painful until near the end. But that is when you could trade him to teams just wanting salary cap not actual salary.

I expect Brown to start on the first line next year. Also think he comes in to next season angry. He worked his ass off last year, sucked, and lost the C.

Just need him to channel that anger into the game.

It's going to happen.

Brown started this season on the top line. He played his way off of it, just like he did on numerous occasions this past season.

In fact, the center Brown was most often on the ice with was Kopitar.

Back to the real topic.
Was that 5v5 or all situations?
Since if at all the PK would inflate those numbers. They did PK together quite often.

5-on-5.

I got a hunch!

All this is true. He was on the top line a lot this year.

Brown finished the year second in shots on goal behind Carter. Factoring in how many shots Brown fired wide of the net, he had a ton of shots. If his 5% shooting jumps a little bit, say 7-9%, there tons of room for improvement.

Couple that with a slight change in game plan and you could see Brown become a productive player!

That might be the heat, or the beverages talking. :naughty:

Assuming they pick up another top 4 D:
Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, TBD
Kopitar, Carter, Toffoli, Pearson
Quick

As of right now, those guys would be on the list for sure. After that, it depends on what the exact rules are for the draft, and how other guys play next year.

I have read in some places where Kopitar has a nmc So do we have to protect him ? i thought they were immune to the draft?

players with NMC have to be protected. The player is immune from being exposed as the team has to protect him. It's not like the team gets an extra protection spot because they have players with NMC.

It hasn't been clarified yet, but most people think NMCs will need protection. As teams shouldn't be rewarded for handing out nmcs like candy.

I think all NMCs will need protection.

Our risk is losing one of Gravel or Forbort. other than that we don't have many attractive pieces unless they want Gaborik to get to the cap floor (which isn't smart through the expansion draft )
