So why do the Kings only offer 4 yrs to Lucic, yet give Anze 8 years?
Doesn't matter if he's the #1 center. He's the same age as Lucic and they
both play heavy games and get beaten on relentlessly. I bet Lucic / agent
asked why they gve Anze 8 yrs, yet the Kings cant give Milan 5 or 6.

I was hoping Anze would have been 8 mil x 7 yrs max.

To which Dean probably said, Centers are a necessity, and wings are a luxury unless you get their prime years, see the deal Toffoli will get next summer, or they go team-friendly (relatively low cap hit in exchange for the term) see Gaborik.

As for Kopitar, you were gonna be disappointed no matter what, the Toews deal was the blueprint and we all knew that from the jump.

Kopitar is a superstar.

That's really a question?

Well, it's really quite simple. One of those players is Anze Kopitar, and the other isn't. Lucic is going to get his 6x6 from some team while Kopi would get close to a max deal on the open market.

it sounds like the team should pack up shop and move to Quebec. No hope, no future, done...

How about we wait at least through free agency to forfeit the season? ok?

Drew just won a Norris playing with the D we have now, if Dean can find a way to upgrade it at least a little bit then we are in good shape to start the season. If Gravel can step up it would be great, he has been playing his off side in Ontario so if needed he can fill in on D wherever needed. Greene and Scuds need to be buried in the minors or (in Greenes case) LTIR. We can wait for the right trade to come about or until in season to get the D we need.

Up front we lost our first line LW, 3rd line C & RW, and whatever you want to call Versteeg.

Brown and Gaborik can play both wings. Between Dowd, Shore, and Andy we have our 3/4 centers to start the season. Mersch can also play both wings and will probably start the season with the team.

We could use a first or second line winger. A RW would be preferable because we do have Mersch, Kempe, and Lowry coming up on the LW and only Auger and Brodzinski on RW.

Its not as dire as some of you are making it seem.

Kopitar has a much better chance to be effective into hi 30's than Lucic does.
Kopitar is a superstar, Lucic is a support player.
Kopitar has a decade of service with the team, Lucic has one season.

It's not really a comparable situation.

Sorry if it's been discussed, but have there been any reasons given as to why Lombardi would let the rest of the league talk to Lucic?

I've seen speculation that:

- Lombardi is just a helluva guy.
- LA might believe Lucic, when he sees other offers, will decide LA is the best option anyway.
- Maybe there's an agreement that any team that comes to terms with Lucic will send a pick to LA.
- LA is trying to create demand for his rights by getting a team to panic and pony up (this one doesn't make sense to me for a whole bunch of reasons).

Were there any other ideas given here?

Obviously true but wow have our assets been managed terribly. 2 years ago we had so many assets it was unbelievable but now...jeez, no return is brutal

Bottom line is Dean went for it, he gambled and lost. I'm sure all that drama with Voynov, Richards, and Stoll made it tough for him to make clear decisions. The Sekera trade was definitely understandable, and part of me wishes we could have retained him instead of trading for Lucic. I always wondered if someone gave Jones an offer sheet and we couldn't match, wouldn't we get draft picks to compensate? Or has that changed?

Sweet so now our LWs are as follows...

#1-Pearson
#2-King
#3-Clifford
#4-Andreoff?

That's ****ing pathetic unless you switch a RW to the left side. Kempe probably not ready either. Gonna be a long offseason/season.

Oilers are competition for a RHD. If Lucic is available to them, maybe they feel they can trade Hall for a D that's not on the Kings radar and stay away from the D the Kings are after. :naughty:

Someone said earlier they were shopping King for picks. Was that the Mayor?

Don't worry, Brown can play LW.:cry:

7 years 6.35 AAV, lol
we dodged a bullet

I'm probably one of Yandle's biggest off season supporters. Saying that I though 6x6 would have been very expensive. This seems very high

If Yandle gets that, just imagine what some stupid team will cough up to sign Lucic to a long term deal. I like Looch and wish there was a way he'd stay, but let's face reality, he is going to be ridiculously overpaid on July 1.

These UFA deals are getting to the point where I hope Lombardi abstains from dipping into the open market and picks off teams who are pressed against the cap for a trade.

Don't blow your load Deano!

Said it before, and i'll say it again, I won't be shocked if someone (looking at you western Canada) gives him 7x7.

Folin is actually very intriguing but I don't see how he is an improvement over what we've been trotting out, at least not immediately. But man he'd be a fantastic project, has all the raw tools to be a top-4 guy.
