McDonagh might be on the trade block? Man, what could the Kings possibly give up to get the guy without including Toffoli? Pearson + Kempe + the next 10 first round picks?
Buying out Brown isn't the worst option.

Better to have six additional seasons of a cap hit of $1,805,555 through 2028 than to have $5,875,000 of cap space wasting away at such a useless player.
Is this an actual rumor? If the Rangers move McDonagh then they are in a full blown rebuild. That means Lundquist will get moved also.
When do you think they'll let Voynov back in the country?
Those were some really shady deals that allowed teams to bury cap hits. They were also made when the cap was in a different space.
I don't know. I want to think that Brown is moveable, too, but it's going to be a miracle of a trade if we're not saddled with something in return, or trading Brown plus assets (which we don't have) for virtually nothing.
First off he signed in the KHL until 2018.
Then if he could get reentry, which I think he could, with a contract being signed.
He would then have to face whatever the league throws at him. And with the current state of PR I would think he'd be facing a year long suspension.
And I don't think at this point he'd every play for the Kings again. They would trade him. And he might get something back but that long out of the NHL the return would likely be small.
Let Voynov go, he will never be a King again. He's a garbage human being anyway.
A year suspension on top of the three seasons he would have already missed? What's the point of that?
The only value Voynov has to the Kings upon return is as a trade asset. I can't imagine they'd have him back after all they've done to distance themselves from off-ice issues.
He's been struggling in the KHL too, for all we know he's toast as a player.
Let's not get back into the morals of the case please, only the business standpoint.
Well, Philly had been trying to dump Vinny for quite a while, looked how that turned out. That's probably what we are looking at, but what players out there fit that description? I'd probably take a waiver on Staal in NY at this point.

Trading Toffoli would be insane. However if we do trade him, it can only be in a package deal along with Kempe and a few draft picks for a return of a single meh player on the Leafs' current roster.
It's Monday morning quarterbacking for sure, but had Lombardi eschewed from acquiring Sekera at the 2015 trade deadline, he would have entered this past off-season with Jones, prospects Roland McKeown and Colin Miler and their 2015 and 2016 first round draft picks available in some combination for a top-four defenseman and (possibly even a top-pair defenseman) with term instead of renting a player that plays the position with arguably the organization's greatest depth.
The Lucic extension may be Lombardi's last big deal if he decides to do like Pierre Lacroix did in Colorado a while ago, step away from the GM role while holding on the President's title to continue to be an influencer without the heavy lifting of the day-to-day grind. The Lucic deal is an important one because it will commence the likely jettisoning of at least one of the stars that were responsible for at least one Cup for the boss with Marian Gaborik and Dustin Brown front and center.
There is chatter that Lucic's goal production in his last two seasons (18 and 20G and not on the board in the post-season) and his strong public statements could keep his price down to $5 million per year on a long-term deal. We spoke with one NHL team manager, requesting anonymity, who thinks that's wishful thinking, but understands Lombardi's logic around this player and the mentality of the marketplace.
When people suggest that Lucic is willing to take a hometown discount, the discount is $6 million a season," the rival team executive told TFP. "Remember that while his cap hit was $6 million this season, his cash salary was $6.5 million. There's only one of him in the NHL and this is a League where Jeff Petry got $5.5 million a year for six years.
I ask because I really don't know, how far off would a Toffoli for Gardiner trade be in terms of value? Gardiner is an extremely underrated defenseman in a Muzzin type mold and is signed for $4.05M per for the next 3 seasons
Lombardi has to want Brown gone first of all, and Brown has a NTC. I am not even sure Lombardi wants Brown gone.
Dustin Brown is not Mike Richards bad. Richards is not an NHL player if you ask me.
Dustin Brown can veto any trade put in front of him. If I was Brown, I would do exactly that.
It's not Brown's fault Lombardi gave him that contract. Brown is still an effective bottom six player.
The problem is, Brown is paid like a Top six player.
