Pearson has also started to show signs of being baby JWill in terms of being clutch...all those OT goals this year and him not respecting the opponent TOO much when the chips are down (i.e. he still tries to skate them and holds the puck instead of just dumping it).

I am much happier we got bounced right away. Had the Kings lost in the conference/cup final, DL might have pulled the loyalty card out again. Time is getting short quickly on this core so I think we might finally see some aggression. Haven't really seen that since the Carter trade.

Lombardi's problem was that the Kings should have gone for a mini rebuild around the core with youth...instead they swapped out Lucic for Williams, let Shore be the #3 center for 40 games and replaced with Vinnie and let Andreoff be the 4th line center for 40 games and replaced with Lewis.

So instead of replacing Williams, Richards, and Stoll with youth they just swapped Lucic, Vinnie and Lewis.

They went for it all again this year by swapping out Williams for a $6MM player in Lucic that they got for half of that.

Shore wasn't cutting it, plus Vinny was necessary to make the Schenn trade work as well.

The major blunder was not allowing for Forbort/Gravel to get a lot of NHL time this season as getting those guys up to speed is far more important than the 4th line.

I think Forbort goes as a sweetener in the "contract shedding" trade which leaves Gravel as someone who should of received more playing time. Honestly, he never should of gone back to Ontario after his first call-up.

Picked up Scuderi and all that great experience that really helped the Kings lead for a total of four minutes in this year's playoffs while bleeding goals.

I realize I now must take back that I expect to see a bottom pairing that costs $2MM next season. I mean $3MM with Greene's $2MM and Gravel's cheap deal.

Agreed 100%

Interesting comment by Rosen. If DL and Lucic are close to a deal (in the same "area code") then DL must have felt out the market and sees a deal potentially working out to get rid of Brown or Gaborik. What other contract shedding could there be? DL is not going to get rid of Carter, Kopitar, Quick, DD and I don't see any other big contract to get off the books.

I imagine King or Clifford would be easier to get off the cap than Brown or Gaborik. Easier as in, you might be able to just clear them off the cap by getting some mid round pick back or whatever.

Lombardi is a good GM, but there's no way he's going to be able to do everything this summer. What are you willing to give up to get rid of Brown's cap hit? Another 1st? A top prospect or two? Retain 50%, and still have to throw something else in? Retain half, and have to take the other team's crap? Every GM knows Lombardi is up against it with Brown. Would you trade for Brown? Would you not want something extra knowing what Brown has become? Lombardi has zero leverage with the Brown situation.

agreed, I hope he stays on this team for a long time

I love what Pearson brings. Young, fast and carries the puck. Great guy to have on the cheap. Baby JWill is a very good comparison. He was 5X the player Toffoli was in the playoffs

If the Kings think Gravel is more ready than Forbort but Forbort is waiver eligilble then the move would be to deal Derek in the salary dump with another player (ie Brown, King, Clifford, Gaborik).

It is so sad the Kings went from Doughty, Muzzin, Mitchell, Regehr, Voynov, Martinez, Greene to Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, McNabb, Scuderi (AHL), Schenn (healthy scratch in Toronto and Philly) and McBain (career AHL'er at this point).

Exactly. Unless DL goes all Jedi on us and gets rid of Brown somehow, I think it will be some combination of Gaborik, King, Lewis and Clifford who are gone.

I think Gaborik is harder to get rid of that point than Brown.

I think Brown goes. Teams like NJ and Arizona will be under the cap and looking for a power forward.

Cap space flexibility is one of the (key) and most sought after commodities right now.

Every team in the NHL right now is fighting for it, and has to have it, to sign their own young players/Core.

You guys are setting yourself up for disappointment if you think GM's are going to take on aging, declining players with HUGE cap hits, and Guaranteed money owed to them. Brown even has a NTC(Limited)

Brown/Gabo will be on the roster come 2016 opening day, unless either guy retires.

The stagnate cap, and Lombardi trading a lot of 1st rounders is finally hurting the Kings.

Ok...
1) Rosen is bad at math. Lucic can be resigned without Shedding much if any salary. VL is retiring, Schenn is UFA... maybe Clifford needs to go if Greene is coming back... but that's about it.

2) I expect Brown on the second like with Carter/Toffoli to start the year. Trolling aside, there's no point in trying to move Brown before you find out if you can lose him in the expansion draft.

3) Pearson may be trade bait. Just a feeling I got.

4) I expect Greene back. If the team isn't looking at being in a cup window for 1-2 years there's no point in trading/buying out Greene.

5) Personally I'd trade Muzzin & Martinez, Sign Yandle/Schenn. I know right? If there's a 5 year plan... it's about opening a window in the next 5 years... not next year. Doughty/Yandle would be a good 1,2 punch for years to come. Schenn can fill in on the second pair then when the cap goes up, Greene's contract runs out. Then he can drop down to the 3rd pair when the team is going to make a shift to be competitive. Target high end young talent with Martinez/Muzzin.

Also... I'd have Quick pull a Price and see about getting into the lottery after starting Budaj for over half the season. :naughty:

Voynov definitely deserves a bit of the blame but I think the McNabb trade could have
equally been the culprit. The trade made sense, we gave up a lot on the hopes that McNabb
would come in be a solid Starting Defenseman.

McNabb was not groomed here so there was a lot of learning that had to be done, & I would like to think I was patient knowing that. I think Sutter has a lot of pressure playing the player that dean trades for him. Meanwhile rookies get brought in slowly and assimilated over a long period of time. I think McNabb needed this treatment in hindsight. Yet he was a player asked to secure big minutes as a starting defenseman ASAP as the kings were thin on the backend.

Over 2 underwhelming seasons and 160+ regular season games, He's become my scapegoat...
seasons 1994 - 2010 there were about 1 or 2 of these guys per squad per year. For me it felt strange again to have a guy that I completely loathed on the kings. It becomes this never-ending scrutiny and frustrations of their shortcomings.

Whoever said this guy was the "best player not in the NHL" couldn't be more wrong. I really don't think there's more to this guy than what we've seen. He can take the body at the blue line.. big whoop. But what he lacks in basic fundamentals and foot speed is just simply glaring. He looked DECENT as a bottom pair...but he was given every opportunity to make a name for himself playing big minutes w/ the best Dman in the game... Gotta feel ok knowing that Doughty can clean up after your misplays. STILL with all this being said McNabb simply hasn't panned out. The lack of foot speed to me is my absolute deal breaker. Sharks wingers exposed him and he doesn't have AGE to blame for it. The NHL game is simply too fast for him in a speed sense and a reactionary/decision-making level to be a successful D guy on this team.

Sucks for the Kings and sucks for McNabb... We lost this trade and i hope we just cut our losses with this project. would love to have a player like Fasching in the pipeline and a hefty LW with scoring touch like deslaurier on our 4th line.

Sorry, but without the McNabb trade, we don't have the assets to trade for Gaborik. No Gaborik, no Cup in 2014. It was for McNabb and 2 2nd round picks. One was sent for Gaborik.

It would be nice to see one of these boys live up to expectations

I had high hopes for Lintuniemi but he had a very disappointing season and apparently struggled to even make an impact at the ECHL level. So if anyone lives up to expectations, it may very well be Cernak.

You guys know McNabb makes $650,000 right? As in last year up against the cap they couldn't afford to bring Forbort and his $900,000 up. Without McNabb giving the Kings solid minuets, the Kings were going to be running short a player.

Also with McNabb having a lot of time on the top pairing this was one of the best regular season the Kings have ever had.

Seriously, can we focus our *****ing on someone that deserves it. Muzzin!

Edit: Maybe next year there'll be cap space to bring in some top 4 defenders.... until Brown is moved, or the sun rises in the west, McNabb has been solid at $650k.

Hawks have $3 million to sign 9 players next year. They will have to shed serious salary. I wonder if they will trade Seabrook?

Fairly sure one of those 2nd rounder selection was made after the Linden Vey trade to Vancouver.

One of the 2nd round picks from the Fasching..trade was used to aquire Gaborik.

The pick the Kings received from Vancouver was used to select Roland McKeown.

The second round pick dealt in the Gaborik trade was received from Toronto in the Bernier trade.

Philly , Anaheim and few others are doing just fine using rookie defenseman. I think Gravel can surprise and be very reliable, especially with Doughty

I dont see Gaborik moving as Dean views him as our Teemu and the guy is a natural sniper i say we keep him. Brown needs to go and i think it will be hard to move him but i think it will happen. Many of you believe it will be impossible no, it will be hard but it could happen. We just might not like the pieces we add or recieve but in the long run its a win.

I can see someone with a bad contract being moved our way with salaries retained on both ends but us getting someone with a shorter contract. Maybe Lupul or someone on Buffalo. Idk why i see Brown in Buffalo
