His partner was Rielly. Who is not the #5 D-man.

If he was trusted, he would have played nearly as much as Rielly. Or Muzzin. Or Brodie. Or Holl. Or Giordano.

This isn't rocket science, yet................
I don't think this is the correct way to view it.

If the should be no.6 gets to do his no.6 usage beside your no.1, that is a massive sign of trust.

Another one of those easily replaceable players like Hyman, Mik, Brown, Kappy, Soup, AJ etc.
I get we couldn’t afford him, he outplayed what we could afford, but he was a loss. Btw, that’s becoming quite a list, doesn’t seem sustainable.

It's simple really. Rielly and whoever he is paired with usually faces the opposition's best forward line. It isn't a place to hide a liability.

And game 3 he had a great assist and a huge hit that led to the puck going the other way and the Leafs scoring.

Include all of it.

Gotta wonder why he was in over Holl and Liljegren.

oh wow Boosh helped contribute to one goal scored in the series????

what a player!

No, Muzzin-Brodie were facing the opposition's best forward line.

And then Gio-Holl next.

To be fair muzzin-brodie had the best forward line matchup, but yes it is simple in that you don't put a D you don't trust beside Rielly. By default the trust exists.

I can't find stats for playoffs... but Boosh is a decent bottom pairing D, who provides physicality, and is ok defensively. He had one of the lowest GA/60 on our team last year. He was by far the most physical D we had in the playoffs.

The reality is... we couldn't afford to bring a guy like that back, and the league overpays for physicality... take a look at Gudbranson, Chiarot what they got this offseason. Boosh was decent, and provided an element we lacked, and lack once again. At some point we are going to be wondering where we can get a physical D, to replace him. This team isn't nearly physical enough, and he provided some of that.

I thought I'd add in everyone's favourite stats xGA/60 LOL

Rielly is dog poop defensively, no getting around that... thankfully he provides a lot of offense... High event hockey.

Sandin - Lyubushkin should be the bottom pairing on this team.

Have to think it bodes well for players like ZAR and NAK. Definitely need more jam in our lineup

Agreed... most of us have been saying this team needed to toughen up... maybe that's some tougher players, but mostly our core, the guys who are on the ice the most, need to do that. Matty did that last year, Tavares has played with an edge, we need Marner and Nylander to step it up some... be leaders in that regard, and demand it from the rest. You don't need to be huge, just play with an edge. Of course, we could use some more size on the backend for sure.

Be harder to play against. Many people miss Kadri, he's under 200lbs, (192) only 6'... and yet he's the type of guy many say they wish we had.... We just need our guys to be harder to play against...

The way camp has started (injuries, still no Sandin, and Keefe’s thing today) plus the risky net situation and overall lack of big moves this offseason seem to me like this season could be a tough one

Likely lost us the series is a stretch... he was played with Rielly too much, that's more on coaching, and well he was trying to clean up after Rielly, which is a tough task to begin with, and he's not suited for it. Rielly is consistently bad, no matter who you put him with. Put Boosh with the right player, and he's useful for you.

Lybushkin, Polak, Yuskevich. These hard-nosed guys who punish and take punishment seem to be chronically underappreciated. I love these guys. Burns' teams at its pinnacle had 3 of these guys on defense: Macoun, Lefebvre and Rouse.
Same, have always wanted Radko Gudas on the Leafs for exactly that reason. I hate playing that guy and seeing him manhandle us when we play his team

There’s a reason Polak played 806 games and Lou was able to get a second round pick two times for him. Flawed but not without value.

To be fair Yuskevich might be a tier above, what an absolute stud defensive d man, still sticks out. Literally never failed.
And then Polak went on to be a core part of the best defensive unit in the league with Dallas the following year.

Hopefully we collect another Boosh/Polak type sooner than later.

Yeah rielly isnt exactly going to prop up a guy you dont trust in the most important zone

Unless keefe thought that if rielly was on the ice they would have the puck more in the o zone.. but i dont like that

By chronically underappreciated you mean chronically the most overrated and overpaid players in hockey.

Coaches only get so many bullets, I think it a bit laughable Keefe thinks he’s setting some tone with vets early in camp. Relax Sheldon, and I personally don’t want people playing “more physical” during a nothing practice in Sept. Just get ready for the season, my god that’s long enough, without losing your shit already. Theatrics.
Treat camp like Willy treats games 7? Need a little intensity.
