It doesnt make it better that's the problem. We need assets to pool together draft picks and prospects to pick younger players that fit the timeline. Without a Hayes and Zuccarello trade we just have our own picks unless Tampa wins the cup and even that one is like a 2nd.

And how is that the case? a 25th overall pick that will take 4 more years to become similar to what Hayes is now? That's considered "an upgrade"?!?

Or is the plan to go get someone out of free agency to fill the 2nd line center slot?

Didn't see it posted, but McQuaid is fine:

Indeed, McQuaid suffered an upper-body injury in the first period — likely a collision on his first shift, though he continued playing for a while — and didn’t return. Rangers coach David Quinn said McQuaid is fine, that he could have come back, but that the decision was to sit him out for precautionary reasons.

Close Call: Rangers take a gamble with their top trade...

You tell me I didn’t bring up Callahan to the Rangers. It’s beinf discussed

Dreger mentioned that the Rangers and Tampa had talks about bailing them from the Callahan contract in the summer. They want him for the playoff run.

Lot of rumors last summer about this as well. I was all for it then and i'm all for it now.

They will be paying us to take him and Cally is still a great leader with his on ice play, something i'd love the kids to follow.

If that doesn't get Ottawa moving then nothing will.

Surely one of their guys must be away today? Maybe McQuaid is move later today.

People have called Dorion lazy and slow, but supposedly he started acting towards moving Stone after the game yesterday. He might actually be able to work something out before Monday 3pm...

So Ottawa has hijacked the trade deadline again because of incompetence.

Gorton needs to make the secondary move NOW because the Hayes and Zucc deals may drag to the last mins because of this. He cannot be left holding the bag again like he did last year in not moving Zucc on time and throwing in JT Miller in desperation to finish the Mcdonagh deal.

Why the hostility toward him? He flat out said he was just thinking out loud.

Lets bash the only beat reporter we have who is actually doing his job around the deadline.

how is that hostility toward larry brooks? if anything its hostility towards the people that think his thinking out loud was a legit rumor and it means we are trading lias.

Yeah this is how I feel. Not sure where the “he’s done” comments are coming from? He is pacing to outproduce most of our bottom 6 with less mins and no PP time.

Think it’s going to likely happen but not till the Summer when Tampa will be desperate to move cap. It makes sense if the Rangers are getting an asset attached plus they are getting a still effective player on the ice as well.

Not a great thing that Stone and Duchene are on the market, but it's not the end of the world either. There's only one of each and if teams miss out or get tired of waiting the Rangers have quality pieces available. Two of the biggest buyers, Toronto and Boston, are in Ottawas division so I doubt they land either guy. Dorion probably wants to send them out west.

Calgary is hot after someone on our roster with their GM being in town last night. Lots of talk about Toronto lately. Things will happen and we'll get good returns.

Sens are going to kill the whole sellers market as they always do. They will probably give their players away for peanuts which will set the tone for the whole market.
I think we'll still get good value for our guys.

There are 5-6 serious buyers, plus a few dark horses out there right now.

Not really worried about that. I don't think values are as closely connected when it comes to the deadline.
This is what I said yesterday--I don't think trade values are "set" by one or two deals the way free agent deals are in the summer. There's a totally different context to the negotiations and it involves team-team interaction as opposed to team-player. It's a much different situation.

I've just given up on explaining last year.

I need to conserve my strength for inevitable hot takes that will be speeding down the pike in the next few days.
I’ve been pretty good at staying away from these discussions but I realized yesterday by pre-deadline frenzy in trying to find bits of info and connecting dots is in full force. I made it closer to the deadline than I usually do, so that’s at least a step forward for me this year
