Lot of rumors last summer about this as well. I was all for it then and i'm all for it now.

They will be paying us to take him and Cally is still a great leader with his on ice play, something i'd love the kids to follow.
Did you see that celly goal he scored shorthanded the other night? Was simply astounding......the Cally I once loved.

I believe it is ALWAYS better to be proactive in regard to trading a year and a half before his contract is up. (McD) (Stepan?) It takes away from all those hard/difficult headaches, and will retrieve more for that extra year.
Only thing is, i agree with you...... Gorton won't and probably shouldnt UNLESS he knew for sure, Hayes and/or Zuccha were returning.....have to have some seasoned vets on this team.

I view the decline in his trade value and his increased leverage in next contract negotiations as things going forward as a bigger issues than them maybe having to sign some vet UFA this off-season, should they even need a seasoned vet considering they may be getting some back at this deadline. That/those vets will not be nearly as good as Kreider, yet I'd be willing to sacrifice the difference between them and Kreider for a better trade return on Kreider given the Rangers are probably not going to be very good next season, Kreider or no Kreider.

Was thinking same. Maybe that bumps Zuccha trade to receiving a 1st and a "B" prospect, instead of a 2nd and an "A".
Or would that be still an "A" and a 1st?

Nieves isn't sweetening the deal, I think they had a trade close and didnt want to be short

So Ottawa has hijacked the trade deadline again because of incompetence.

Gorton needs to make the secondary move NOW because the Hayes and Zucc deals may drag to the last mins because of this. He cannot be left holding the bag again like he did last year in not moving Zucc on time and throwing in JT Miller in desperation to finish the Mcdonagh deal.
So then technically the market has been dragged down now? Teams with lesser available players (Hayes and Zuccha) Gorton will be forced into trading earlier, and trying to get what he can get? If you do and other teams do as well.......Dorion technically can be left holding the bag.......or getting quite a bit less for Stone. Wish he signed him and took him off market. Losers.
Opposed to waiting till last second and getting fleeced, like maybe Gorton did last year. Which is it? Wow.....very confusing.

In what world did Gorton get fleeced last year? I'd give maybe a very slight edge to Tampa in that trade, and we flat out won the rest.

What would the Rangers be looking for from Toronto for Kreider? Kapanen? Liljegren? Nylander seems like a stretch to me.

I’m just happy we didn’t sign Miller to that contract (which would be more here than Tampa)

Btw, Jackets adding Duchene would be good for us. Jackets aren’t a serious contender and that makes Hayes the best C on the market for the real contenders that may get desperate for a C like Nashville (who wanted Duchene)
I just hope Columbus gives up an absolute haul
