takes two to tango here....if you were a GM, would you deal for McQuaid (and maybe a 4th or 5th) for your second rounder?

Well, you might if your last name started with Chia.....

If I was really concerned with beefing up for a potential long PO run, maybe Leafs?

Although, maybe Chia pops up as a consultant for a PO bound team before Monday :sarcasm:

Yeah, I’ve gotta imagine this is good for NYR. Stone and Panarin will still be out there but Hayes should be the top center now and maybe causes a bidding war between Winnipeg and Nashville. Not to mention it’s happening early and gives the Rangers time.
It is good for us but I would assume this is Columbus going all-in, and that they're not moving Panarin.

Jackets gonna give up much prospects to get Stone or Duchene in replacement for losing Panarin.......my guess. They need to be proactive and would be great if they took Stone off. Stone or Duchene "might want to sign with them", but Panarin will test the market by his say so. Stone or Duchene should be thrilled with gping to an upside Jackets team in comparison to Ottawa.

Duchene to the Blue Jackets might be the best scenario for us. Makes Hayes the best center on the market and they prob wont deal Panarian which helps Zuc’s value

I was thinking they’d flip Panarin and recoup the assets they gave up. Now they’re in the same spot they were where they can still compete with a top guy but they now have the ability to extend said player.
And if Duchene doesnt want to extend despite the rumors? They arent in the same spot then unless they get more for Panarin than they gave up for Duchene. Because imo Panarin is the better player. Duchene is having a good year but Panarin has the edge imo

I agree. I think CBJ is all in.

They want one last shot with Bob as their goalie. Theyve had a lot of the same guys for a few years now.
Agreed, honestly I think it’s a great move. If they know they are going to lose Bob and Panarin then why not take a shot at the cup?

Next year is going to be a transition year for them regardless of whether or not they sign Duchene long term.

Give some prospects and maybe this year’s 1st (which should be pick in 20s). Then look to retool over the next few years. They have some good young rosters pieces anyway.

Or they can try and actually win a round or more. This is probably the closest they're going to come to making some noise. I know they had discussions of doing what you said, but at some point you can't keep reshuffling the deck, Jarmo hasn't sounded like hes too interested in doing that and tbh, I haven't bought the Panarin stuff.

If Toronto wants the luxury of, Kreider - Matthews - Marner, which would probably be the best line on planet earth, they'd need to pay a massive premium.

Kreider and Shattenkirk @ 50 for Nylander, Liljegren a 1st and another conditional pick.
Yes, yes and yes please. That I would do, and mind you I really don't want to part with him......but Nylander (yeah baby) aside from obvious......parting with Shatty might be the best of it.

I mean think about it......Shatty at his price easily helps to pay for Nylander. Simple.

Isn’t it all a risk though? They can keep Panarin and have them both and miss the playoffs entirely with neither re-signing. For our sake, I hope they keep Panarin but I don’t think it’s a certainty they’re keeping Panarin.
