that can’t be right, kovalev27 promised me rainbows and unicorns had we traded Zucc last season

We kind of forget that at the time, it was reported, and mentioned by myself and several others on here, that if the Rangers had an offer they liked for Zucc (a prospect, or a first, or a combo of a pick and prospect), they would've taken it. They were close, and somewhat ran out of time, but the fact that it was still being hammered out is indicative of them not quite having what they wanted in an offer.

Gorton ran out of time and overplayed his hand is what happened. He was right up to the end with Mcdonagh. Let’s call it what it is

I get the sense that Calgary was more interested in a center, or a bigger package that included a center.
Would it be off based to suggest the deal was valimaki and a 1st for Hayes with an extension and the hold up was checking on the extension w Hayes. Once they realized it wouldn't work they pulled out? Reading between the lines on Maloney's interview today they were in on something big but it ended up not making sense bc they won't trade prime assets for a rental, i read that to mean they worked on something to possibly be a non-rental, but extension didn't go anywhere.

Maybe I'm nuts...

Which teams are willing to trade their #1 pick?

Nashville.

Boston.

Boston radio guy. The B’s were on Nyquist last night. San Jose didn’t pay a big price

Islanders?

Calgary won’t trade it for a rental.

TB could trade their pick and owe the Rangers a future 1st if they win it all.

Vegas if they get Stone.

Pittsburgh said no a few weeks ago but they might not make the playoffs.

No... they can't.

They can trade their 1st on the condition that they don't win the cup this year. But they can't owe the Rangers a future 1st unless they make another trade with the Rangers to change the terms.

I believe that the something big involved Stone not Hayes

Lou Lamoriello, quietly has a tremendous hand to work with.

Have a feeling the Isles are going to make the big splash with Stone.

According to the same people who don't like these deals, Zucc was a shell of himself this time last year and should've been traded in 2017, and Hayes was still seen as a third line center who might be a second line center.

But that's the thing, we ALWAYS have some reason why something other than what we did was the better path.

It's like self-flagellation in the digital age.

This is a good post and I’m guilty of thinking this way sometimes. The truth is that we’ll never know, so it’s always tempting to play “what if”. If I was forced to guess, I agree that Hayes probably had more value this year, but I do think Zucc would have had more last year. But obviously there’s no way of knowing. It also complicates other things - if we focus on a Zucc deal last year, do the Nash and McD deals still happen?

Good thing for this year is that we’ve already moved our two big rentals, and now we have some time to listen on Kreider offers and see if anyone is willing to overpay. It has to be extremely tough for Gorton to make a call on when/if to sell Kreider. And I’m sure we’ll all complain about his decision either way ;)

I feel like it's easy to lose track of our complaints.

Zucc has been called everything from broken down and past his prime, to not being worth more than a lone second round pick.

And yet, somehow, despite all of this, the Rangers overplayed their hand and should've gotten more than a second and a third (with at least the slim possibility of turning both into firsts).

Which one is it?

Because depending on the day, I find myself having completely different debates on here.

Random prediction based on nothing other than us bringing in Lemieux, Jimmy Vesey gets traded today.

Could they really? I can imagine thay can trade their 1st with a conditions that it becomes 2020 1st if they win a Cup (because in that case they owe 2019 1st to us).

I hope your wrong because he doesn't have a lot of trade value at the moment but that may change between now and the draft
