If this team somehow gets 4 first rounders this year that would be insane. 9 firsts over the past 3 years is a pretty good way to start a rebuild

Looking at the draft rules...

The basic order of the NHL Entry Draft is determined based on the standings of the teams in the previous season. As with the other major sports leagues, the basic draft order is intended to favour the teams with the weakest performance who presumably need the most improvement in their roster to compete with the other teams. Subject to the results of the NHL Draft Lottery (discussed below), the teams pick in the same order each round, with each team getting one pick per round. The basic order of the picks is determined as follows:[7]
  1. The teams that did not qualify for the playoffs the previous season (picks 1–15)
  2. The teams that made the playoffs in the previous season but did not win either their division in the regular season or play in the Conference Finals (picks 16–23 up to 27)
  3. The teams that won their divisions in the previous season but did not play in the Conference Finals (potentially picks 24–27)
  4. The teams that lose in Conference Finals (picks 28 and 29)
  5. The team that was the runner-up in the Stanley Cup Finals (pick 30)
  6. The team that won the Stanley Cup in the previous season (pick 31)

If winnipeg goes out in the 1st round what is their pick #?!

Jets made the conference final last year.

At this point of his career, Wayne Simmonds is not worth a first.

I loved Simmonds, and wanted to see him on Broadway for quite sometime. That was in the past. I actually think he is cooked. I dont see him having that 1st round pick value. Good ole boys club love the toughness piece so he might have more value, but im guessing he gets a Grabner like return. 2nd and a B- prospect.

They wouldn’t be. Guys with term bring back more. That’s been fairly consistent. So why would the returns be the same?

According to the same people who don't like these deals, Zucc was a shell of himself this time last year and should've been traded in 2017, and Hayes was still seen as a third line center who might be a second line center.

But that's the thing, we ALWAYS have some reason why something other than what we did was the better path.

It's like self-flagellation in the digital age.

24-27 right now

I think he had to be signed or else he was headed to UFA as a 6.

I know, but the fact that the Rangers offered him a contract is good. They guy has been great in the bottom 6.

Building a contender is all about those support piecs

No reason to have traded those guys last year

So Gorts managed to save the least exciting trade for last.

3rd rounder for McQuaid and I'm happy.

The general scuttlebutt is that the Rangers explored dealing Zucc and were close.

But I don't think there's a substantial difference in the deals that were on the table in 2018 vs. 2019 --- which is a little surprising, and somewhat disappointing, but it is what it is.

that can’t be right, kovalev27 promised me rainbows and unicorns had we traded Zucc last season
