Are there issues between Laine and Maurice? Maybe he needs a different approach to improve his flaws. Hypothetical would you do Kreider and Hayes for Laine? Obviously the deal would include more pieces but as a jumping off point I would consider it.

Laine has a history of not always seeing eye to eye with his coaches.

Id be happy with that deal. I dont think Lemieux is that bad of an add-on. He can agitate, skate and also has the skill to score. On a good team he'd be a nice 4th liner but I wouldnt expect much more. Its the 1st rounder that you HAVE to land.

A 2nd and Lemieux isnt good enough.

He's a good 4th liner right now at 23 in his first full season in the NHL. He will get better

Lemieux would replace a lot of the chippiness that the team lost with McLeod and Zucc, plus McQuaid almost certainly moving today. Likely tops out as a 3rd liner who can get under the opposing team's skin but that's a great, great get in addition to a 1st round pick for a rental.

If he wants to stay in NY (which I am assuming he does), that is why.
