That’s because two years ago NHL net wasn’t under the NBC Sports umbrella yet.

That’s not actually true. The NHL holds the controlling stake, and NBC has held a minority stake the entire time its existed.

And even beyond that, it’s managed by MLBAM anyway.

TSN programming is barely shown on the NHL Network anymore. Ever since the NHL Network hooked up with MLB Network, they have shown the Sportsnet feed for the trade deadline and the draft.

No McKenzie or Dreger on the NHL Network.

Elliotte Friedman and Chris Johnston are their insiders.

The NHL has Sportsnet for NHL draft coverage in Canada.

The TSN guys do a draft show on NBCSN.

The NHL Network shows some TSN draft preview stuff. That’s it.

If they were to trade Kreider, now is not the time. This is one of the most buyer-friendly deadlines in some time. Everybody is getting underwhelming returns.

What if next deadline is similar or worse for the sellers?

If Kreider is not traded, and the Rangers are thinking extension, it's going to be interesting to see what Skinner, Nyquist get versus what Panarin, Stone get as UFAs, as Kreider's comps are going to be somewhere in there.

It is the transition to MLBAM that was the difference, you’re right. Oh well. Turned off NHLN and signed up for an ESPN+ trial. In the end I don’t care as long as I can find a legit way to watch at high quality.

You can look up when they moved them under the umbrella. They probably had a deal w TSN to air the deadline two years ago, but once they were migrated under the NBC Sports umbrella those deals we’re never discussed w affiliated entities

Considering you'd get him for 2 playoff runs yeah it absolutely would.

That changes his value, it doesn't change the market.

I don't think it would be because the next draft isn't supposed to be as broken as this one. That's really why nobody is paying.

What does that have to do with them currently supposedly not having a plan (which they do, ya'll just not paying that close attention)?

I didn't say Rangers didn't have a plan. Like Knicks the Rangers are also playing kids.

While that may be part of it, maybe also teams are just shifting towards keeping their 1sts at the deadlines for rentals?
