Why? I like Lee, but he isn’t exactly young anymore. Kreider plays a similar role.

If were going to spend money it should be on Panarin

No point in signing Panarin were a few years away from making a real push. He’ll only help us stay mediocre.

i didn't expect all of Strome, Namestnikov, Nieves, Vesey, Brickley, Belesky, to still all be around at 4pm today

Of course the Rangers insider (Brooks) will be fed info that the Hank inquiry was not true, as I'm sure many have stated, discussions regarding any player leaving, especially the face and cornerstone like Hank, is a big nono and teams will deny deny deny.

That's why what happened with the Pelicans and the LA Lebrons in the NBA was so amusing, it's exactly what teams try to avoid doing with these deadlines, and it completely blew up in everyone's face and all are now properly butt hurt.

Last year, this year, and next are the seasons they are going to be mediocre and have high draft picks.

That seems pretty evident to me based on how they've loaded up with picks the last two years

You sign Panarin for the season after next, when you have the core in place and start to compete

Oh wow you're right. They lost Letang and Dumoulin. I think that's their first pair right there. That's rough.
Yeah I think are tight in making the final spot and the fact Dumoulin had a concussion the other day made him a bit more desperate.

I'm assuming he means for the Hayes trade lol. I mean what were they expecting for Zucc a 4th?
Happy with what he got for Hayes but we didn't make out like bandits TDL 2019

Mediocre =/= high draft picks. Bad = High Draft Picks.

Pass on Panarin.

When Columbus inevitably rebuilds that may match up to about the same time the Rangers are buying? Wonder if Seth Jones will still be good by then?

Sorry that is just how my mind works.

I wouldn't mind seeing the team sign a vet or two to a 1 year deal. They have a truckload of cap space and aren't going to use it anyway. No harm in over-paying a guy or two on a one year contract. It could be win win for all involved.

The vet gets more money.
The rookies get some mentoring (I keep thinking back to how important Redden was for the D in Hartford).
The vet would likely put up better numbers in a bigger role here than on a contender.
The whole thing could be done with an understanding that the team would then trade them to a contender at the deadline (with some salary retention).

Turn free assets into draft picks with some mentoring in between.

WTF with Carolina how could they not do anything to better their team being so close to making the playoffs for first time in a decade. Are they just conceding that Montreal, Pitt and Columbus is better than them?

I think it's probably cumulative - having Lemieux as the prospect in the Hayes deal, getting some conditions on the Dallas picks, maybe even getting a throw-in piece in the McQ deal.

They acquired Niederreiter a few weeks back.

Gorton's comments about using assets they've acquired recently to speed up the rebuild pretty much tells me that he doesn't expect this team to suck for many more years

And I would assume he probably doesn't have the luxury of time to think that either
