Clowe was supposed to make $4M in salary this season but the lockout took away a good chunk of that. 4 years/$14.5M is his current contract. $3.5M each for the first 3 years. $4M for this season. He had a 1/3 of the NHL chasing him this week. Pay cut? The Rangers didn't acquire Clowe to play on the 3rd line.

The Gaborik fanboys can't handle the fact he's as good as gone.

A lot of people are vastly underrating Clowe as well.

at C, pray Richards bounces back with Clowe a big winger on one side.....Stepan has been great............after that I hope by 3pm they can move out Boyle, Pyatt and replace them with UFA rentals and picks

I don't think the team can rely on Kreider, Miller the rest of the way, they are big parts of this teams future but they are going to make mistakes. Start fresh after a full camp next yr

This is huge. I think Clowe/Richards can thrive together.

Gaborik is gone with this trade, at the draft. I'm 100% certain of it.

Asham has a $1M cap hit. Sending him to AHL clears $925,000. The Rangers still need to replace him in the line-up.

The Rangers and the agent Kent Hughes have agreed to parameters of a contract. The Rangers know how much money they need to clear. Give Clowe $4M. Re-sign McDonagh,Stepan and Hagelin. Try to find a combination which includes Gaborik. Fill out the roster. Leave room to operate the team. There isn't a combination.

Cap was tight enough as-is. Either Clowe walks or Gabby is out, IMO.

being reported Clowe has a deal that will be in place at some point............Gaborik is moved at the deadline for a 1st, top prospect, young Forward.

McBain is 25. He is not some blue chip prospect anymore. I don't know where you're getting this idea that girardi would be the asking price. Girardi is a proven NHL defenseman. Carolina just acquired Bergeron and activated Sanguinetti off IR. McBain is the odd man out.

I also don;t know where you are getting this idea that Babchuk is better than McBain in all facets of the game other than skating. I think that "bomb of a shot" is clouding your judgement. Babchuk is very mediocre. He doesn't show up some nights. McBain holds more value than Babchuk. He closes off players, similar in the way McDonagh can. He has offensive ability and he is good positionally. I'll take McBain.

I still don't think gaborik is for sure gone with the Clowe deal.. I could see him making about 3M, which leaves about 9M for Stepan/Hags/McD (at least 3M available for each) and thats without moving players who could be moved like Pyatt, Asham, and maybe even Boyle.

How about the savior Rick Nash who is good for 2-3 lazy penalties a game? He "only" has 13 and he's on a hot-streak. If this is Gaborik's cold-streak, I honestly can't wait for him to start getting hot to refresh everyone's memory he scored about 90 points as a RW sniper with us. Who else can do that as a winger? Kovalchuk? Maybe, Vanek? not quite, Nash? lol nope, he's scored 79 points in 2009 and that's his career high. He's never even scored 42 goals in his CAREER and Gaborik scored 42 only last year...and the year when he scored 86 points. Nash also makes $300,000 more than Gaborik for less production and more penalties. Just think about that for a moment. I'm a huge Nash fan as well, but if he didn't dangle and wasn't that big, I'm sure most of you would be thinking that trading Gaborik would be the wrong idea. I can almost guarantee next year he will not only outscore Nash, but will score 37-45 goals next year.

I have no idea how people want to resign Clowe. I'm fine getting him for a rental, but resigning him at 4M?

Powe should stay, not everyone on that bottom 6 has to score. He is good at what he does, provides speed and pk.

1. No. Clowe is having an off year. Just last year he outscored every single forward on our team except for 4 (Gabby, Richards, Callahan, Stepan).

2. Going by goals leaves out half the equation. Holy ****, am I really reading this crap? Even with an off year this year, he has outscored EVERY SINGLE ONE of our bottom 6 forwards (11 points). Where the **** are you getting this horse ****?

3. He slots in very well wherever Torts puts him - whether its in the top 6 or 3rd line; he'll bring a physical presence, and a grit that we are lacking this year -- something stat surfers like yourself will miss.

Srs? Or trolling? Go watch virtually any footage of him playing and stop focusing on the stat sheet this year. He brings a ton more than just the point production (but he even brings that).
