$7.5 million for a guy with 3 goals in the last 25 games and he's not in the discussion for the biggest problem?

Thank you. Once again, he and Richards have been THE problem.

If they're playing as well as they can, we're in 5th place, at the least.

Yeah, that's what he's saying.

Gaborik is gone with this trade, at the draft. I'm 100% certain of it.

I will be happy with this if only because it means it opens up cap space and allows us to finally plug holes that Sather has created with his god awful FA signings. Obviously if Clowe is signed for $4 mil per or less I'll also be satisfied (I'd prefer less, but I'm guessing he gets $4 mil).

That seems to be the consensus on what people here think he'll get. And I'm not mad at that price. He would have gotten more on the open market.

How many good centers are available?

Look what Handzus fetched, for ****s sake.

You can overpay to get players who GMs aren't considering "available." Handzus got almost nothing. Boyle, a prospect and a pick could possibly entice some GMs to move a better 3C if they have depth there.

Hope TSN has a lot of filler planned for tomorrow, seems like all the big names that were talked about moving already got traded.

How many teams have that depth?

The teams that do are more than likely contenders, and not willing to part with their 3C.

Not that I want him on the Rangers, it is strange that Robidas has not been talked about more.

True, especially with the firesale going on in Dallas.

You'd think some team(s) would be interested in him. He fits our needs (defensive depth, possibly RH shot on the PP), but I hate the contract.

I still don't think gaborik is for sure gone with the Clowe deal.. I could see him making about 3M, which leaves about 9M for Stepan/Hags/McD (at least 3M available for each) and thats without moving players who could be moved like Pyatt, Asham, and maybe even Boyle.

going by goals, Clowe is the worst person on our bottom 6:help: and if he wants 4M per :help::help::help::help::help:

I don't see how you see that. Unless he's had a childhood dream of being a Ranger and takes a huge discount.

It may not be a certainty, but it is a probability.

To add a vet D,the Rangers can acquire a player making $2.9M but they will need space to operate the team for the next 3 weeks. They also need to send contracts back in the deal because they are 50.

#nhl rosters can expand past 23 men at midnight tonight

Those extra players count against the cap if the Rangers have more than 23 players on the roster.

because he's not good anymore?

If that's the case he'll take 2 mil, right?

Honestly do some of you just look at stat sheets on nhl.com and not watch any games? Sure sounds like it.

He'd easily get 4+ on the open market. Clearly he accpeted a trade here knowing he'd take a pay cut from his current deal. Sound logic there.

no, but he's making 3.625M this year, do you really think he deserves a raise based on his season this year?

Wonder what the odds would be of Clowe accepting a 1 year extension at a cheaper cap hit so that we can hold onto Gabby for a cup run next season. And then maybe signing a longer term contract when the cap goes up again that offseason.

Considering most contracts aren't given out based on one season of production, no I don't. Especially for an established 30 year-old who could/would have gotten a raise on the open market.

The bigger question is you really think he would take a pay cut knowing all of this?

That's putting a lot of trust in an organization you're just getting to know.

Clowe was supposed to make $4M in salary this season but the lockout took away a good chunk of that. 4 years/$14.5M is his current contract. $3.5M each for the first 3 years. $4M for this season. He had a 1/3 of the NHL chasing him this week. Pay cut? The Rangers didn't acquire Clowe to play on the 3rd line.
