I don’t think sports radio is for you

I do enjoy Wiggy’s beer league stories
I don’t listen to that show much, but did play against Wiggy numerous times in the 30+ men’s hockey league at hockeytown in Saugus. Not the best player, but was always great to have a few beers with in the stands after the game. Nice guy. Huge on skates as well.

It's weird how Felger is a Bruins fan but tries so hard to keep the same shtick he does with other Boston teams.
He’s said before that he idolizes Mike Greenberg and it’s clear that he’d be content to simply facilitate discussion and let his cohosts insert their opinions.

Felger comes off as negative, but he’s more of a contrarian. If everyone else feels like the sky is falling, he’ll take the opposite view and say that Team X isn’t that bad and could even contend for the playoffs and make a run.

I am in agreeance with him in acquiring a defenseman.

i'd rather listen to big o, fred and steve in 2003 than jones
Bold but fair statement.

Imagine if WEEI got Mazz and it was Felger vs Mazz in the ultimate battle royale afternoon death match. Get the popcorn ready!
Felger would crush him because he has his schtick, people now about it, yet they still take the bait and react. I find that alone fascinatingly odd and riveting to listen to.

I do agree with Felger that, as a fanbase, we’ve been burned many many times over the years with this team.
Felger thought they were going to be a good team all along this year. Not like this but not a bottom feeder. He thought they'd always be a playoff team. The only "negative" angle I've heard him hint at is the peaking too soon/going balls to the wall for President's trophy/best RS record ever. Plenty of examples in the NHL where a dominant teams gets bounced and bounced early. So I understand his point but I also don't know how you approach it if you're Jim Montgomery. Probably just look for spots to rest certain guys on back to backs.

I have no idea if the ratings will reflect this but I am already in on Rich Keefe show over Joe Murray. Just in hosting ability I don't think it's close. But I still could be in the minority in that I have switched over in that timeslot.

Having lived outside of New England for a decade now, I very much appreciate Felger & Mazz and the podcasts.

I don't listen to all 4 hours anymore like I used to, but I'll catch an hour or two a day. I enjoy them both, even if they do grate on me from time to time. Jim Murray is fine but his Brady obsession has certainly gotten a bit annoying.

Don't really like anyone else on either network. DA was by far the best The Sports Hub had, and I'll listen to his national show occasionally too.

20 years ago WEEI was unstoppable. They swatted away WWZN 1510 who bet heavily on Eddie Andleman and Sean McDonough and had the Celtics contract.

1674895023935.png

In 2005 WAMG came along

1674895315687.png

The daytime signal was competive but not so much at night

1674895515835.png

1674895587753.png

BUT they did have Felger and they became a nuisance to WEEI but the signal doomed them and by 2008 they were gone.

A year later CBS Radio blew up WBCN BUT the key move was moving WWBX to 104.1 and the new WBZ-FM to 98.5 because the latter signal covered Providence.

The Bruins agreed to move to FM and 98.5 would allow hockey talk and within a year 98.5 surpassed 850 AM.

WEEI finally moved to FM in 2011 but to do so had to blow up MIKE-FM on 93.7 which was a huge revenue stream for the then Entercom.

I'm guessing WEEI will shift in the next few weeks to more gambling talk as sports betting becomes legal in Mass.

For the time being at least, Channel 4 has moved its sports report out of the lineup on the 6 p.m. newscast.

Sports director and anchor Steve Burton’s report, which typically runs around three minutes, has been moved from its familiar 6:20 p.m. spot on the news to approximately 5:45 p.m. during Channel 4′s weeknight news block (5-6:30 p.m.).

The decision was made by news director Gerardo Lopez. Channel 4 sports staffers were told the change was experimental when they were informed recently. It was implemented in last Monday’s newscast.

The decision is not totally shocking — the 6 p.m. news is basically weather, news, human interest stories, and more weather nowadays — but it is a significant break from tradition, particularly for an older demographic of viewers whose loyalty to Channel 4 sports dates to the heyday of Bob Lobel, if not further back.

They have no need for it anymore. They cover the Pats in the regular news. :)
