Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

Which is why I have no respect for any of the local media, because they were all hands off on Benning. And now that he's gone, they're dancing on his grave. I remember the days of Skeletor ripping into the Canucks and Mason was quite critical back in the day. Now we're stuck with the owner's lapdog of Ian Macintyre. Drance only went loco in the last year.

I have no doubt Aqua will meddle if things go south.
I’m getting images like you start seeing him in the halls a little more, and you’ll catch him looking through the door at a meeting, etc

He got the team on a back door deal with Buttman who promised the other group a franchise to walk away and that means the owners in Vancouver are owned by guess who
But it can't last forever, Aqua and any owner are the ones with money. All they have to do is threaten to leave or criticize the league publicly.

I have so so so so much to say about this:

1) I letting JEB stay for too long!
- A~nd whose fault is that? You blame the fans? You blame your dad Luigi? You blame the Leprechaun who called you a disgraceful loser?

2) I'm livid about OJ pick! Fredolini SMASHU!!!!!
- That's just hilarious, Tkachuk pretty much started showing his teeth the moment Calgary picked him up. And all of a sudden NOW you're saying you were livid?

3) JEB tricked me!
- How DUMB do you have to be to be trick by JEB lmao. I guess a better question is, how DRUNK were you when JEB *giant air quotes* tricked you?

4) But my dad loved him!
- Then your dad is either a moron who was fooled by a dumbass, or he's in on it.

Conclusion: to me, this piece stinks of some insecure loser who's desperately, and I mean DESPE-F****ING-RATELY, want to make himself look good.

Let's say all of that was true. What it tells the fans the following:

There is no one competent in the Aquillini family capable of running the franchise.

Is that any better?

Botch and JPatterson yes, were fairly critical. But Drance was only more vocal in the last year or two. He only turned when the tide started turning on Benning.
In fairness to Drance he did only start covering the team again at the start of the 2019/20 season. He was definitely too soft his first ~18 months but he was also one of the first to change their tunes.

Aquaman reputation in the city has already been tarnished. These stories now coming out yeah no fat chance.

He held onto Benning for way too long, any competent owner would’ve fired Benning after 4 seasons.

Some posters (I’ll let you make the inference on who they might include) mocked me when I said drafting Juolevi over Tkachuk was just as big of a mistake as the Neely trade. I actually think it’s worse now lol.

And yet, there are some who still maintain that this is hindsight.

Unbelievable.

Patrick Johnston said that FAquilini is involved in every player transaction and every contract signing.

Patrick Johnston said he has the final call on both and even makes up trade scenarios himself.

As the owner of "Your Vancouver Canucks" it is his prerogative to do this but trying to blame Jim Bean now is disingenuous.

Said this many times, will say it as many times as needed: Fredolini is a grubby meddling little BITCH. And JEB is either a p***y ass coward who doesn't have the spine or the balls to make a compelling argument to change Fredolini's mind, or he's a dumb piece of shit who's in on his boss' plan.

Pick one, dealer's choice.

Add to that the concept of trading down never occurred to JB? Like AZ, Buf, Mon to Boston wouldn't have moved up from the top 10 and given you a 2nd or a future 1st? Heck, depending on the timing of the AZ/Det deal for Datsyuk, might have gotten the 1st that they used on Chrychrun and sent back a 3rd (Lockwood) pick to balance out the deal to AZ for them to bring back the Tkachuk name to the desert.
Only reason not to was because they viewed OJ as clearly above the other Dmen in the draft and weren't taking the chance of him getting taken ahead of him.

I dont believe that FA makes trade proposals to Jim Rutherford.

There's plenty of evidence that they've meddled on trades in the past though.

rutherford campaigning to the media about the coaching was absolutely a symptom of a dysfunctional relationship between himself and aquilini. if rutherford had the authority to fire boudreau he would have just done it rather than trying to make a case in the media/to aquilini

i also 100% believe miller was signed because aquilini stepped in. all the messaging/signalling up to that point was that miller was on his way out

Completely agree that Rutherford talking to the media about Boudreau made the organization appear dysfunctional....That fallout stopped Rutherford from talking to the media completely, which is a shame because he had some good insight on the state of the team.

The messaging by Rutherford was not signalling that Miller was on his way out..On the contrary, he was saying that organizations have to ascertain whether a player can still play, and be effective, in their early 30's ..(reading between the lines, they were fully in conversations about retaining Miller).

Also consider this is coming from Gary Mason, who already carried water for one powerful abuser (alleged), and is now carrying water for another.

there's text and there's subtext. the text may have been that miller was in the team's plans but the subtext was that they wanted to trade him if possible

I'd like to believe it, but I think my sentimentality should not get in the way of my sensibilities. Even if true, this information reads like a prop piece.

Although, like many have said myself included, now that Benning is gone *everyone* is walking back what they said about him and will try to bury their opinions. I just didn't expect the ownership to do it as well, but that's not to say I'm surprised.

There is indeed.

I think if the right offer presented itself, they would trade Miller....Conversely, I dont think they're unhappy having him under his new contract either....We'll see how it plays out around the end of June before Millers contract kicks in.

I dont believe that Aqualini went over Rutherfords head and demanded they re-sign Miller...On the contrary,I think that JR and Allvin are quite bullish on Miller.

you're entitled to your opinion but i don't think they would still be entertaining trading him if this was the case

We kept Miller and ditched Horvat, in the long run that will play out much better.

Horvat didn't do shit and was only captain because he was Canadian, a really shitty captain for real. Did nothing, didn't rally the troops, was always depressed when things didn't go right and you had Pettersson, Miller and f***ing Hughes being so pissed off at him for not doing anything to lead the way.

Horvat the person, nice guy. Horvat the captain, I'd rather have f***ing Harold f***ing Druken as captain than his ass.

I think that everyone (minus EP,QH and Demko to a degree) on the roster is up for grabs if the 'right offer' comes along....The first thing JR/PA did when first hired, was call the other GM's and gauge the value of their roster.

Trading/keeping Miller is a win/win situation.

Furthermore ,...Rutherford isnt a first time rookie GM (Gillis,Nonis,Benning) that Aqualini can browbeat..Any interference would have Rutherford telling Aqualini to stuff it where the sun doesnt shine.

Rutherford should thank Aquilini all day long for not letting him fire Boudreau, it gave him the perfect fall guy for this disaster of a season.
