Other than a rather disasterious run as head coach of their AHL affiliate (which was a LONG time ago), Smyl seems to be employed in areas on the team that suits his talents. Delorme, on the other hand..............
What role has Smyl taken in with tangible results since 2009. Please explain.

One of them works for a department that is results based, and his area of focus has been particularly bad. Smyl's role has changed often and he doesn't get a lot of spotlight. It's not that funny.
Only people who want to complain about our drafting and need a scape goat for it think Delorme has had anything to do with drafting since Gillis demoted him. He’s there because he’s an excellent ambassador and role model for Indigenous youth.

What Smyl and Delorme have done since 2009 is virtually indistinguishable- in fact what Delorme has done since then away from the arena as an ambassador may be far more impressive

No one is disparaging his work outside of hockey operations. I guess you can't separate work performance and the human.

He's been singlehandedly for terrible WHL drafting in the 90s. Gillis demoted him, only for Benning to put him right back. And WHL/CHL drafting has continued to be terrible.

Up until this season his title was Chief Amateur scout.. so I don't think it's him randomly being scapegoated.

And Charles is King of England

He's basically just in PR isn't he? He's not an amateur scout. Pro scout. Coach. Not in charge of player operations to my knowledge.
Both Smyl and Delorme are PR at this point and have been for over a decade.

I don't know the point you're trying to make. If Stan's title was chief amateur scout, while the team had historically bad scouting he'd get roasted too.

As far as I know, Delorme is still the chief amateur scout.
That's still his title. (Rather was up until this season.)

Even if it is only pr at this point, at one point it wasn't, and their scouting was terrible. Hence why Ron gets dragged more than Stan.

Let's assume this for a fact regarding his title meaning nothing. When the **** has Smyl *EVER* been given a really substantial position on the Canucks (again, other than that *ALREADY* acknowledged horrible time as head coach of the Moose)?

Apparently the Aquilini's believe they're astute businessmen. But you'd think a guy with ounce of business acumen would ask the hard question about his NHL franchise.

That question: "Why do I have one of the highest payrolls in hockey, for a team that hasn't mustered a single home playoff date in now close to a decade? And it isn't happening this year either.

In any other business, a ridiculous payroll tied to a dramatically underachieving results would trigger major changes. But this owner is either too vain, stubborn or just to incompetent to figure it out.

Must not have been a fan in the 90s and Early 2000s??

Delorme’s role with the team is outside the rink. I don’t understand how people are having trouble with this. Are you all that title focussed?

Delorme hasn’t had a damn thing to do with any draft since 2008. Like cmon.

But he's held a handful of different titles over the past 20+ years.

That’s the Abbotsford vendor?

Yup. So friggin' good.

I’m gonna do a game there sometime. This season is seeming like a good option. Hot dog that night for sure!

Agreed. Last night I had the Prime Rib sandwich which was awesome and a Lully’s dog man it was top notch
Prime rib in Abby similar to the Carve at The Rog?

"I think they have learnt over the years how much involvement there should be, how much involvement they can talk to our president or GM, but at the end of the day I think we all learned the hockey decisions have to be...you have to have a game plan, and you have to stick with that game plan with the management team that you have. The involvement is like any other owner wants to know what's going on as the season goes, but I know over the years it hasn't been as much as when they first came in, but they've wanted to learn about the team."

basically confirming the meddling (also, it's probably still going on lol)

According to that they have been meddling less and less. Sounds like most of the meddling was before Benning and way before Rutherford.
