Official Francesco Aquilini Thread

What’s next?

Canucks ownership is apparently pondering its next move, stunned that things have gone so badly. Postmedia News understands that chairman Francesco Aquilini and his brother Roberto Aquilini are at odds over the direction of the team.

Penguins 4, Canucks 1: A lifeless loss on a road to nowhere | The Province

Francesco being removed as Chairman would possibly make this horrendous start worth it…although the fact that the rest of the Aquilini family hasn’t pushed back until now is also worrying.

I hope 'Roberto' wins out.....it's a lot closer to being a 'hockey name' than 'Francesco'.

TBH - it's probably because it's starting to affect them in other ways - "sullying the Aquilini name". I wonder if a boycott on everything Aquilini owned would make the numbers of "do I fire a coach & gm owed money mid season" a bit more palatable. A handy blueprint can be found here under Sectors! Aquilini Investment Group

f*** it - Sunnyside Dairy, Blueberries, Cranberries, both f***ing wineries, Gindara sablefish, Pizza Hut, Araxi, Bar Oso, Il Caminetto, Blue Water Cafe, CinCin, Elisa, Oceans and Thierry. All banned. Your move Roberto.

Honestly the family should revoke Francesco of power. The brand, both the Aquilini and the Canucks are being smeared to ruins.

The city and province are f***ing upset, this team is bad and no f***ing accountability is being taken.

NONE.

Do we need another banner? I know Uncle is also working on a billboard…

Don't diss Benning, diss Aqua. Am I doing it right?
Benning is a symptom of the Aquillini problem.

Obsessing over the most visible symptom while ignoring the root problem doesn't really make sense.

Benning sucks yes, but it's not in a vacuum (get it?). He's unfortunately part of a much bigger problem.

Stop defending Benning.

Benning is guilty as sin of negligence.

Negligence (Lat. negligentia)[1] is a failure to exercise appropriate and/or ethical ruled care expected to be exercised amongst specified circumstances.[2] The area of tort law known as negligence involves harm caused by failing to act as a form of carelessness possibly with extenuating circumstances. The core concept of negligence is that people should exercise reasonable care in their actions, by taking account of the potential harm that they might foreseeably cause to other people or property.[3]

Benning has NOT exercised appropriate and / or ethical ruled care expected to be exercised by the General Manager of an NHL hockey team and we are foobar'ed because of this jackass.

Again, it's like a disease on this forum where if you aren't saying Benning is responsible for world hunger you're a 'BANNIGN BRO!!11"

I'm saying yes, he sucks. But it's the people above him who are the real problem. I'm not saying a different owner should hire Benning because he is so great. Benning should be fired, full stop. I am choked that he hasn't been fired, and apparently there is no move to do so.

But obsessing over him like it's all him and things would be fine if he wasn't here is like discovering that strawberries give you hives and then thinking the solution is to keep eating strawberries and just cut off the parts of your skin with a rash.

Where my analogy is left a bit wanting is that we should ALSO fire Benning, whereas you wouldn't want to cut off your skin for a rash.

But seriously, me saying that Benning is a part of a much larger problem is not a defense of Benning. For christ's sake, I can't believe I have to explain that.

Until the Francesco Aqualini is removed and a President is installed, I will continue to refuse to give money to the team or any of Aqualini's investments.

I've been doing it for years, glad some more fans are realizing the problem isn't just GM or Coach finally.

Everyone agrees that ownership is terrible. Aquilini has zero defenders here.

What basically everyone wants is Benning fired into the sun and a proper President hired and given autonomy to hire a quality GM.

Everyone understands that ownership is terrible. However, inside of the framework of ownership being terrible, Jim Benning is also shockingly incompetent and one of the worst GMs in NHL history.

This Naslund19 guy is insanely active in the last 2-3 days. He is willing to die for Jimbo. You've got to admire his dedication.
Talking about me without @ing me is a terrible look.

Especially when you're trying to say that you think you know what my motivation is. Stop humiliating yourself.

Remember when you said you remember me not knowing about the Canucks from 06-08 and then not owning up to your mistake (or lie) when I called you out for it? Maybe quit while you're behind.

You understand this perhaps, but have you not noticed the number of times where those calling out Aquillini have been derided for 'defending Benning'?

That pre-season interview Aquilini did with the boys at Sportsnet 650 needs to be up on a website somewhere, where it can be played in a continuous loop.

With the hindsight of 20 games into the season, it might be the most cringe-worthy interview ever given by a Canuck owner in the history of the franchise. At least John McCaw had the good sense to leave the media interviews and talk-show appearances to the hockey guys running the franchise.

It is getting more obvious that he is the issue, but the idea that his ego would prevent him from stepping aside after such sustained failure is really not good, I get the impression he won't go easily...

The only terrible look on this thread is what you're doing. We all know you're almost out of a side job, but that doesn't mean that you should attack other people personally just because they point out the obvious.

Everyone is saying for years that ownership sucks. But it also sucked during the Gillis regime and no one from the Benning cheerleading squad pointed that out once. Where was your post defending Gillis when things went sideways? Can it be found? No? Do you have the guts to accuse anyone of looking terrible?

Lots of pro sports franchises teams with terrible owners win.

Aquilini didn’t tell Benning to trade for guys like Gudbranson, Sutter, Baertschi, or sign Myers or Eriksson. That was all Benning and Weisbrod.

Honestly, all I’m seeing is you attacking other people. It’s kinda sad since you brag about your join date but show a level of immaturity and aggressiveness that’s usually reserved for younger members in this board. This franchise is at a sad state right now, the least we can hope for is for Benning to get fired.

I'm hoping he gets fired too.

I swear there is a nerve toxin on these boards where the cult of depression that assumes that everyone who has ever had a happy day in their life is a paid shill of Benning can't recognize their own myopia.

The post you are responding to is literally me finding someone talking shit about me without even @ing me, but all you see is me attacking others.

But when I think about it, I'm probably arguing with teenagers on this board which is ultimately a bad look and a waste of my time.

I didn’t know Aquilini was Italian for having no pride of ownership!
