so nichushkin or possibly jones could be sitting at 5-both possible fran chise type players or busts -i think its possible JR has already decided to deal the pick but if jones is there and he trades the pick damn. he is in probably in a gm's dream spot or nightmare depending how you look at it. it had better be 1 sweet deal if he moves it--be prepared to be extremely disappointed today

I want high on a trade before but if we have a bidding war going and we get a great young player and then get back into the first round and possibly a prospect... I am all in!

1 thing we all should know is that ALL TORONTO AND MONTREAL PLAYERS ARE OVERHYPED AND OVERVALUED by the canadian hockey media and especially their fanbases--KEEP THE PICK!

a good and realistic post here. i wouldn't mind nichushkin at all but although these picks may not be "busts" they could very well turn out to be your average nhl players. it's a crapshoot and if jr can get a package with well established players that fit their needs (they have many needs), i say go for it. jr and the other gms are in a non-enviable position to be sure. i have a feeling that the canes are going to have a good day tho.. i hope. curious to see if they make a deal with the penguins.

I'd take Rielly over Gardiner, wouldn't be that happy with Gardiner + 21st for 5th. In that case I'd rather take something like Gormley + 12th.

In any case, JR should drive up the bidding if he has any semblance of a crafty GM in him. I'm hoping and praying he doesn't screw this up. The J-Staal trade was brutal, Canes paid heavily. They can't be on the downside of another trade when a potential star at 5 is on the line.

Totally agree

So lets say we take a deal and fall back to lets say 12-21. Who do we get.. judging we get a very good young shutdown defenseman in the trade. Who do you like? Shinkaruk???

looks like if we move back it wont be a trade with Edmonton

Despite many irons in fire, told its still more likely than not Oilers hold on to No. 7 pick. Two second rd picks in play however.

Also with this deep of a draft those players could actually start. Maybe not second line but defenitley third line.

If we get a young good dman I would rather go offense before defense... but I guess thats just my preference. If we also somehow a good young d player and a second round pick this could be icing on a cake!

Using this as a basis for my thought process:

5th + a role player or McBain

for

Kadri/M. Reilly and 21st

My guess on trades for 5th:

6th + 28th (Canes add a bit)
8th + Sekera + McCabe
9th + Merrill + 39th
11th + Coburn
12th + Gormley
14th + 19th + Tyutin
17th + Gryba + Ceci
Rielly + 51st (maybe 21st if they get desperate)
