I would have given up LaRose and the 5th to grab the #1 pick. And because I'm kev's version of a GM, I have mystical powers that forces other GMs to take the deal.

Zadorov falling, maybe 35th?

yup, no chance. he's BPA right now with still 20 picks left before we pick again. have a feeling we'll get someone good, but not Zadorov.

Of course, to play Devil's advocate, we could always trade that pick + for the top 4 D we are looking for. we'll see

Without knowing what Tampa wanted, this argument is pointless. Everyone and their mother said the top 4 picks weren't being moved when the draft started. The first 4 picks happened in record time.

Another good point. 3 minutes to negotiate (10 seconds if JR called Yzerman and Yzerman said "no").

JR should have known last night that MacKinnon was going No. 1 and Barkov was going No. 2. I know I did. I'd have started the offer with our No. 1 next year and No. 5 for No. 3.

I'd have even considered giving up more in terms of picks.

SETH JONES people. We had a chance to get SETH JONES. I'm not sure why it's OK that we just sat there and took Elias Lindholm instead. I don't get it. I couldn't be any more disappointed.

JR on Lindholm and a tidbit on Skinner:

Chip Alexander ‏@ice_chip 54s

Rutherford says Lindholm has an out in contract with Brynas, if he makes Canes roster. Canes would not have to buy out final year.

Michael Smith ‏@MSmithCanes 1m

Rutherford: "This is a player who will have a chance to play with us next year." Notes he's a natural C but could play RW.

Craig Custance ‏@CraigCustance 2m

Jim Rutherford says Hurricanes are not actively shopping Jeff Skinner but would have to at least consider a significant offer for him.

Yes. This why the Canes were drawing all the trade interest at 5. it was the highest pick that might be available. Tampa was not trading unless JR made a really stupid, lopsided trade.

makes me feel better. only thing i didnt like about Lindholm was him not coming next year. With the out in the contract and the possibility of him making team, which i fully expect him to do, excited for the chance to see him next season
