I'd have called Tampa Bay after Barkov went No. 2 and made a trade with them to swap No. 5 plus assets to get No. 3.

What part of this is confusing to you?

They wanted Drouin who wouldn't be there at 5. What part of that don't you understand?

I'm trying to answer all the posts directed at me, so if you don't want me making this point over and over, stop quoting all my posts.

And thank you for stating the obvious, that we don't know how this is going to turn out. But as of right now -- today -- we had a chance to get a player who was considered the best in the draft, who would fill a need, and be ready to play right away, and we let it slip through our fingers. There are 10 guys who haven't even been drafted yet who could end up being better than Jones, but that's doesn't change how you manage assets in a draft.

How do you know "we had a chance"? What if JR made an offer and the answer was "No, we want to keep the pick".

Tampa gave no indication they wanted to trade. What would you have given to move up? It would have taken a roster player or two.

Tampa wanted Drouin. Nashville would have taken Drouin. Tampa no want trade for pick past Nashville.

Simple logic.

Why do teams even have GMs if there's no way to make trades? If there's no way to trade for No. 3, why do these teams make so many phone calls? I'm not sure how these trades are getting made. If there's nothing JR can do, why are we paying him a lot of money? Why can't we just make Jussijuice the GM. I mean, there's nothing he can do, so why not?

You guys are saying there's nothing we could have done to make it worthwhile for Tampa Bay to have Lindholm instead of Drouin, right? No way. Nothing could be done.

I'm simply not buying it. Sorry. A better GM than we have would have found a way to get it done. It's not impossible. Trades happen. Other GMs do it all the time.

So what are you suggesting we should have dealt for him?

But there's a giant cliff between the Top 4 and Lindholm, so why would Tampa do that theoretical trade without demanding a king's ransom?

28 of them literally passed on the same opportunity.

So, Kevin, what (in your opinion) would have made it worthwhile for Tampa?

And please, give us more than "assets"

I had saucy dreams of Morrissey being there with our 2nd rounder.

But JR won't be fazed.

Just stop. who cares. we have what we have, who is a WONDERFUL player and will be a very good player for us, whether he starts next year or not. Nothing you are going to whine about is going to change what we have.

Why, so you can make theoretical arguments as to why it would be a bad deal?

I'd have done what it took to get Seth Jones here. Period. End of story. It may have been painful, but I think Jones over Lindholm is worth a little pain. I'm not sure what Tampa Bay asked for, or what they're interested in (in terms of specifics), but I definitely would have offered our No. 1 next year to move up two spots. It's impossible to say anything specifically, because I don't know how Tampa Bay feels about our assets (specifically), but I'd have got it done because Jones is worth it.

People recognize it wouldn't have been impossible, but very unlikely with Tampa wanting Drouin. The question to you is, what would have been the "assets" that struck the balance between enough to entice Tampa and not too much to be an overpayment? You've been critical of every other move the franchise has mad, so it's hard to believe that balance exists in your mind.

EDIT: Guess you addressed it above, carry on then.
