It didn't work because someone forgot to enter the password on the phone after having restarted it to enable the face ID.

I saw a video last night of someone testing out the phone and it would unlock pretty\ easily.
There seems to be a debate about that and Im not sure thats true. Most comments say that password screen is not what you would see when restarting.

Apparently bright lights and sunlight can cause issues because of the infrared, so certain lighting conditions might work better.

I didn't catch it but apparently face id wasn't working during the presentation and they just put in the passcode? Lol.

It did work, but not the first time. Looks very awkward the way he had to put it up to his face (and it still didn't work).

Would be shocked if they don't go back to touchID as soon as its affordable.

I watched a video from CNet last night and it unlocked without issue several times.

Was thinking about what to do about getting a new phone last night, and I'm waiting about 6 months for 3 main reasons:

1) I'm not ****ing with the supply constraints. People are going to be *****ing through Christmas about it taking too long to get their X and I don't want to be a part of that.

2) Reviews. I figure most of the issues with the phones as well as iOS 11 will be out there for me to assess.

3) Deals. As of now, there is not much separating the carriers. Most are offering $40-$45 for unlimited plans. I'm thinking/hoping it'll come down to who is going to pony up the best deal for the X.

I currently have a 6 which will turn 3 years old in about a week (I was one of the nerds who waited in line). It mostly works OK, but I've had to do a couple hard restarts over the last month and some of the touch response in the corners of the screen is starting to go. I figure I have about 6 months to go till it's on its last legs. Perfect timing.

You can completely disagree all you want. The Apple software and hardware appears to be much more advanced. There's a reason that they are considered to be actual years ahead of Qualcomm on it.

You can say it "appears to be much more advanced" all you want and drink the kool aide if you choose to. This is not an opinion here. It's fact that the tech here has been around for years. It's no more advanced than it was 10-20 years ago. Again, Apple just makes it mainstream and brings the tech to more peoples attention. They are smart business people with cool toys. And I dig it. I buy their products. But acting like the tech they are using for Face ID, AR or wireless charging is some new amazing technology is just false.

Apple’s latest chipset isn’t just beating out the Android competition, but it’s blowing them out of the water, by a lot. At least in benchmarks, that is…

Early benchmarks for the iPhone X have appeared today on GeekBench, revealing some absolutely ridiculous scores. The single-core performance of the new Apple A11 “Bionic†chip surpasses 4000 points and the multi-core score on the 6-core chip falls just under 10000. Regardless of how you view benchmarks, that’s an insanely impressive number, and it’s also a notable improvement over what we saw in the iPhone 7 and iPad Pro 10.5.

What’s sad here, though, is just how badly this beats what Android chipsets are capable of. Apple has had an edge here for a while, but now the gap between the top performing Android flagship and the iPhone is just insanity, especially when you consider multi-core.

lol you can keep going. Anyone that owns an iPhone knows you have to enter the pass code when you 1st power it on before you use any bio's. It said clearly on the screen please enter pass code for Face ID. After he did it worked flawlessly.

However I would defer to the individual You tube testers.

But... but... it's the same as the S7, why is it more expensive..

Like all those people in the r/apple subreddit?

I really don't care, but its pretty obvious if you look at it objectively that the first attempt failed. People that think otherwise are literally being laughed at in there, its that open and shut.

Doesn't sound much different. So you're still paying money on top of your bill for the installments, minus the trade in value of the previous phone?

What are the options for somebody who doesn't own an iphone 7 they can trade in already?

It's the same, you can do the 12 or 24 month. The bottom line is your are not paying full price for the phone unless you want to at some point.

I just have to trade in if I want a new one, can't keep it where with contracts you could have after 2 years and sell them.

Well, it definitely failed once and it's definitely worked right away for others. What I know for sure is that this technology will be scrutinized heavily over the next few months, so we'll know for sure.

I'm confused, so when do the installments stop? You must pay for a phone at some point. If you trade it in aren't you just moving the payments on to the next phone?

Disagree, it looked like the locked screen where you can't use bio's. It worked fine after that. I'm not basing anything on reddit comments.

As I said, wait to some of these testers review the feature with actual units and not some presentation. It seems like you are also so giddy for products you don't own/like to fail when it should always bolster competition and innovation when the succeed.

Nope you trade in at 50% paid and get the new one. This is all on their websites dude if you want details. I have explained it three times now. Look at as leasing a phone for year at a 50% hit or a bit longer.

I've listened, and I'm looking at the site, and what you're saying...ehh, lets just say it doesn't seem to add up.

If anyone else would care to explain or back up what you're saying maybe I'd buy it but its not making sense. What you're saying sounds like a straight trade in where you continue to make payments on the new phone minus credit. If its that its nothing special.

Post the message, then the guy goes to back up. Did they have different profiles set up on that phone? It says enter passcode for Face IDu
Follow the links I posted. Thats not the message you get on restart, even on IOS 11

That's how it works.

Let me take a crack at explaining it.

Option 1 - Buy the phone at full price.
Option 2 - Installments. Once 50% of the phone is paid off you can TRADE IT IN for a new phone with a new installment plan. If you pay 100% of the phone off during your installments you then own the phone.

So Once you pay 50% you can trade it in. Most places say you have to have the phone for at least a few months before you can trade it in too. The only way not to be forced to trade it in is to pay 100% of the price on your lease agreement.

So say you get up to 80% of the phone paid off your option is still only to trade it in because that's part of the lease agreement.

Makes sense. I honestly prefer contracts to that to be honest. Either way, not sure how one can argue the retail price doesn't matter when that business model is clearly based 100% on MSRP.

Yeah it makes no sense to pay more than 50% if you are going to trade it in.

Why would you do a contract that locks you in for two years. You end up paying more of the phone's cost that way? Why you don't see it itemized on your bill you're paying more in the end.

No one is disputing the cost is related to the phone, just that almost nobody is paying full retail for a phone. So when somebody says OMG 1K for a phone. That's not happening

I never said that, but if you're paying 50% of an $600 phone versus a $1000 phone, theres obviously a difference in how much you're paying.

Enter passcode to enable Face ID. The message when you restart the device is passcode is required for Face ID after restart or something like that.

There are two distinct messages. The one that was in the demo failed.

I remember when places still had 2year agreement options AND had their installment plan options. They sold the installment plans because they "knocked off $20 from your data plan". So now you see commercials like "You get 20GB of data for only $40 a month!" but then you are either paying $20-$40 more a month per device if you are on the installment plan or paying $500-(now)$1,000 to own the phone. Which, depending on what phone you get you could be paying more or less over that 2 year plan because not each one is worth $20 extra a month.

Gah this is so confusing. I get it, but I hated dealing with it. So I am one of those people who just pays outright for their phone.

Yeah it makes no sense to pay more than 50% if you are going to trade it in.
Indeed. I know people who take their time deciding what phone to get next and do end up paying more than 50% but less than 100%. Basically giving Verizon free money because they waited for the new phone they wanted but it wasn't long enough to own the phone. *facepalm*

Correct and I've never had an Iphone that was $600 new since this has started...lol. You have other avenues to lower your bill as I discussed above. Still, very few people shell out 1K for a phone these days. I think my 7 was $799 or something.

Is the X a couple hundred dollars better than the S7 or whatever the price difference is. That's for the individual to decide.

What's lost here is the 8 is actually a really good phone aside from being in the same case of the previous two but because it looks the same people have a hard time going from 7 to 8 or 6 to 8.
