yeah I really have a hard time figuring out who is the market for a 512 GB phone and what they're doing. If you're doing stuff that takes up that much space, I'll assume high quality video editing and the like, you're using a tablet at the very least, most likely a laptop.

I know there are a lot of hardcore music fans but I still have a hard time believing someone can have 500 GB of songs lol.

especially in this era of music streaming and it sounds like people don't really buy music anymore. Didn't I hear like early this year or last year that Itunes is going to become more of a music streamer site and it will be harder to actually buy albums. I hope that's not the case or else sites like Kazzaa and Napster will become popular again.

I'm still new to using W10. Where is the extra step?? :)

On the surface, it seems to be near-instant when I press the power button. I do want the iPhone to be as near instant as possible.

Settings->Accounts-Sign-in options. (or hit Win key+I to get to settings).

Under Windows Hello, there an option to 'improved recognition'.

When I setup Windows Hello, during setup, it asked if I did wear glasses, and recommended do the setup both ways, so I did. I've also gotten a new pair of glasses since then, and it's been fine. (which is good, as I'm blind as a bat without them).

Ironically (or in typical MS fashion), I decided to go through the process again, since you asked more details, and to see if there was anything else I forgot about...the Hello setup crashed. So I restarted, took my glasses off, logged in with Hello no problem.

Went through the setup process again...and it crashed. The IR webcam comes on, but the setup crashes. Good thing it is working, and I don't have problems.

Downloaded music cache. Maybe it's because I live in a big ass state, and unless you have Verizon, cell service can be spotty. That, and games are huge, my phone has a 1440p screen, and 1080p is becoming the norm - higher res = higher textures, and then people take lots of pics and movies too.

So a large flash size can give lots of room for cached music, downloaded movies and shows from Netflix, times when you don't want to use up your LTE allotment...I have 8 GB of LTE/month with Straight Talk, but if I didn't have caching, I'd probably burn through that fairly quickly.

Don't think I would need 512 GB either, I don't even have that much SSD space in my laptop, but there must be people out there that do. Sometimes 64 GB can be limiting, but then I realized there were a bunch of games I don't play, so...

Man I hope they don't go full streaming. I buy a ton of singles from out-of-print or obscure artists that I'd never get if the iTunes Store didn't exist.

I'm a little more old school than most in that I refuse to pay a monthly fee for music when 95% of what I listen to is already in my collection.

I'd rather pay Apple up front for the ridiculously inflated storage options, than pay them for a subscription service where my library disappears when I cancel it.

Bono and Apple were supposed to unveil some next generation of music idea that they've been working on to entice people to buy albums again (and probably buy the same albums they own, again). I imagine that must have flopped. It would be nice to have a format with hyperlinks to music videos and liner notes, but that might have to be iPad-only.

Or perhaps the 512 GB model would be useful for FLAC if Apple ever chooses to support it.

Keep in mind that with the streaming services, the songs you download for offline listening are saved to storage, so it works like that. Still, though. I use Google Play Music on my iPhone because of a family plan instead of Apple Music and I have 1,205 songs downloaded to my phone and it only takes up 11.22 GB. My phone is 128 GB and I've only used 37.47 GB.

On another note, a KGI report says the new iPhone will be more expensive because of Samsung controlling the cost of OLED screens and there will be no Touch ID due to 3D Touch.

Speaking of google play music, is there a way to transfer all my songs to google play music and use that as my default music device? I have bought movies and TV shows on ITunes and that's probably still going to happen but I would like to break away from ITunes, especially if I decide my next phone is an android phone.

Music yes, Google made an uploader tool, and IIRC, you can store up to 50 GB for free. You can also upload through Chrome.

If you do get GPM, I love the service, hate the player UI, love YT Red.

Not sure about movies, never bought any of those from iTunes. I've only used Ultraviolet and Netflix/Amazon. Movies and games are still areas where I generally prefer physical.

At this point I would be shocked to see them have Touch ID on the higher end phone they release

Unless they have faked everyone out and got it under the glass, it just isn't happening, which I think is a real shame

Whichever phone they release next year will have it under the glass I bet

Apple's reportedly seeking a second OLED display manufacturer because Samsung is selling theirs at $120-$130 USD to Apple per display. They were spending roughly $55 USD or so per LCD screen.

I'm definitely getting a new iPhone early next year. If this facial rec. is a dud, I'll go with a 7 plus and just save the extra $400.

There are also strong rumors that production is a month behind and that the 8/Edition won't be available until October.

No offense but are you paying $400 just for facial recognition then? Seems a little steep.

Just picked up a 128GB SE to replace my 16GB 5S cause I needed the storage and a slightly newer camera. With the recent price drops it's not a bad deal since I'm not after the latest flagship phone.

My little baby hands will miss this form factor when it's time to truly upgrade.

You could have made this same statement several years ago about 256 GB, 128 GB, 64 GB, etc.

They're not going to get one lol. LG isn't manufacturing many high end mobile panels, certainly not enough to fill Apple's demand. LG will eventually be their second supplier (LG and Samsung dominate the OLED market), but it'll take some time given LG is focused on TV panels which make them a lot more, and at the moment they have zero competition.

Apple's official website says if you use your desktop computer to charge your iPhone while your computer is asleep, it could drain the battery on the iPhone. I've done this for a long time and I have noticed my battery life dropping significantly. I'm assuming this is true?

Apparently the iPhone X is only being produced in around <10k units a day compared to previous models where the volume was much, much higher per day. There aren't going to be many available at launch...

If the iPhone 8 is really a 7S in a 7's body, you really have to wonder if Apple is going to drop the starting price on it. The same phone body for the last FOUR YEARS. I have a 6+ and could use an upgrade, but it'll be X or bust for me if I go retail. Maybe upgrade to a used 7+ and save the money to upgrade the ol' Apple Watch to a Series 3 LTE. Hoping there are lots of people upgrading that flood the used market.
