I just picked up a set of AirPods to try out. I have to say.

The tech is amazing. Like nothing IÂ’ve ever seen. The W1 chip is one of the more revolutionary things IÂ’ve seen in a while. The instant pairing is kind of mind blowing.

I needed a compact set of buds to go with my Sony MDX wireless cans. I also wanted wireless (I have a set of Bose Soundsport Wireless for working out and biking). I had an AMEX coupon ($25 statement credit for $150+ purchase) so I figured why not?

Sound is obviously not at the level of my MDX cans, but it definitely seems a step above the regular AirPods. Fit is a bit tighter as well (anecdotal though).

I may end up keeping them. Have 45 days to decide. The charging case and overall combo is really unbeatable for portability.

One of the things I always wonder with the Airpods is how can you make sure they don't get lost or stepped on. I see how small they are and I see how easily they can drop out or something.

Will they try and stick you with a restocking fee if you were to decide to return? Guessing it depends on where you bought from?

I'm still really happy with mine, a few months in. Fit is much better than one would expect, I've only knocked them out while taking my shirt off or putting it on.

The Bluetooth pairing seems to have improved immensely, especially when paired with the Apple Watch. No skips or hisses ever.

iTunes Match and these AirPods are the reason I'll probably never leave iPhones. Music is #1 for me.

I'm genuinely curious about the W1 chip...I've never had an issue pairing my Bluetooth headphones or getting them to connect. I turn them on, they connect, and I can start playing music. (Android since KK and Marshmallow)

Or is it like a replacement for NFC?

Even Windows 10 has gotten less stupid with the last couple updates, although it's still hit or miss with Bluetooth controllers, so I'm glad they added a manual 'force' connect option.

I never had Bluetooth headphones with my 4S, so I'm just curious is it that iOS has a problem with pairing/connection, that Apple had to develop their own chip?

No.

The speed at which they connect is much faster than bluetooth (you literally pull the airpods out and they connect within 2 seconds or so). The W1 chip helps improve battery life (PowerBeats 3 has 4 hours more battery life than PowerBeats 2 with help of the W1 chip).

Kinect was dead on unlocking different profiles within seconds of coming in view of it, the tech is there. That being said, I don't want to hold my phone to my face to unlock it.

Huh? Most facial recognition tech I have seen uses IR as well so it can see depth of facial features so someone cannot just take a picture of you. Most of them test for more than "eye and skin color".
All I know is that every single one of my brothers was able to unlock my samsung with facial recognition. If all it takes is someone that looks like you then its not secure. Id never trust it.

I'm hoping those leaked prices aren't accurate

I am upgrading regardless, but which model I upgrade to will depend on the announcement next week

$999 for a 64GB phone... holy god...

Meh...If most are still doing that Next (or whatever) program, that 256GB is still around that $35/month for 30 months. That's what they're banking on. Consumers thinking that it's only $5 more a month than what they had.

This isn't Samsung's tech so what's the point.....

Ive heard the same thing for windows 10 facial recognition. Every company steals tech from the other so its easy to guess based on where others are, I'll be happy to be wrong, but I'm not optimistic.

Actually returning them. The tech is amazing, I love how well they work, but the things do not work for my ears. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.

Can't stress enough how great these are, though, if they can work for your ears.

Windows 10's facial recognition is actually pretty good. I just bought a Surface 4 for work and it is super quick for recognizing.

Im sure it is but I'm talking about other people being able to unlock it. If my brother can unlock it because he looks like me why would I ever use it, I might as well leave it unlocked.

I can't even unlock my Windows 10 with my glasses on. Any minor difference seems to block it. So it sounds like Samsung's tech is garbage (which isn't surprising).

Thats not that reassuring, its easy for a computer to see glasses versus not glasses, its not easy to see minute facial differences. Maybe I'll look into windows 10 personally and ask my brother to try it along with me. Id be surprised if he couldn't unlock it as well.

Considering there are articles galore on Samsung's facial recognition being a joke and easily hacked and almost none on Windows 10, I think it's pretty obvious that Samsung's tech is garbage (again, typical). Windows 10's facial recognition seems to be light-years better. You can fool Samsung with a picture. You can't do that with Windows.

There's an extra step in the Hello setup just for that. I have glasses and it works fine.

I find it (the facial recognition) to be good, but putting it into a phone just has to work every time, and be fast. Hello works, but there is a slight delay at times (a couple seconds) after I open my lid and the cameras activate.

I'm sure Apple has this figured out or it wouldn't be released. This is something easy to test. I prefer to lock my phone but don't have to and really didn't start until touch ID was so easy to unlock. There are several articles out there regarding Apple's 3D imaging, ect. I guess if you have a twin then.... that might be tough. Brothers? We are talking about the 99% of people that would nap your phone and do anything before you have a chance to wipe with find my iPhone.

Six days and we will know more. Hopefully some of the YTube testers will get their hands on some pre-release.

My brand new gaming laptop that plays all the latest games on ultra settings is cheaper than the cheapest iPhone now.

I think I am finally done having to have the latest and greatest cell phone.

I'm still new to using W10. Where is the extra step?? :)

On the surface, it seems to be near-instant when I press the power button. I do want the iPhone to be as near instant as possible.

512 GB on a phone is crazy. I never delete anything and have a hard time using up 50 GB

I bought the 512 GB iPad as our family travel device, everyone can add their movies and shows and games.

But 512 GB for an iPhone...I guess if you want to carry your whole music/tv/movie collection along with an hdmi adaptor...At that price, you'd have to be replacing several pieces of carry-along tech.
