32 Thoughts:

Leafs targeted Desharnais from the Oilers (Vincent Desharnais at eliteprospects.com) when trading Lafferty.

Freidman thinks if Robertson doesn’t make the team (looks like he hasn’t) then he will likely be moved.

When you consider our want for a big defenseman and moving Robertson, looks like a swap could be coming.

Not sure why a change of scenery is needed at all for Robertson. He just needs to work and he'll get another shoot soon enough. I do think by the trade deadline though it's possible his name comes up as a trade chip.

I agree. He hasn’t earned a spot.

I guess there is a balance though. Can’t have too many disgruntled players around. Maybe some of the vets are getting tired of him? It seems like he really believes he should be on the team?

I’ve never seen him with any of the team outside of the rink. Might be best for both parties.

It'll be really important for Holmberg to get a good start with the Marlies, you want to see him separate himself from the other tweeners

Am I the only one who is a little skeptical of both Minten and Kokkanen? Not long term, but just in the here and now.

Help me understand how two players who looked light years away from the NHL in April/May could not play a single game for a summer and then come in looking like they've jumped 2-3 years in development?

Being 20 and spending 4-6 months training can do wonders at that age.

And confidence. A lot of being a professional at anything is about confidence. A couple good bounces early can carry a player a long way.

Some players just need better players to look much better or who can compliment their game and there's others who can play with anyone. Is Minten gonna carry a line? No, but he's the kind of center that'll be the glue guy for elite wingers or very good wingers who can carry a line. Kokkonen on the other hand has always been a pretty good 2 way defenceman and I wouldn't really put any stock into the Marlies since that last coach was here. Wasn't a very good coached team.

Martin Jones getting through waivers is a positive development. Better than getting a 5th for Lafferty as acquiring an experienced backup goalie if the injury bug bites would cost more than a 5th during the season.

Did Kokkonen make the team or is he like last guy to be sent down?
There are some players that are still on the roster that won't be. They need to get as close to the cap ceiling as possible to be able to use all of the Murray/Muzzin LTIR space. This is one of the reasons Kokkonen/Lagesson/Cowan are still around.

Whoever decided to put in that 100K clause in his contract was a f***ing genius and clearly scared the shit out of other teams wanting to claim him.

I heard nothing about this. Why does this scare off other teams?

Honestly it feels so good to get a 3G through waivers for once after Curtis, Pickard, and Dell all got sniped in years passed.
It's not impossible that both Samsonov and Woll could be on the shelf at some point during the season. A veteran 3rd is reassuring.

Figured and makes sense.
