I don’t get why people are saying Minten isn’t ready. So far through camp, he’s shown us he’s definitely ready.

Can he handle the 82 game grind? Only one way to find out. There’s been plenty of 19 year olds who make it to the NHL nowadays.

Minten’s game is exactly what we need from a third line center.

It's a risk. I think everyone likes Minten right now and how he's playing in a few pre-season games but there's no reason to think he can't be the same player next year after a full season of playing a lot of minutes, experience the WJCs and develop his overall game further. It's a lot harder to do that on a stacked NHL team.

Not sure 100k will matter much of anything to most teams other than Coyotes and the Ducks but yeah... it's cheeky.

Oh for sure, it's irrelevant for a lot of teams, but at least smart in the sense that it adds a bit of friction and like you said will cause some teams to look elsewhere. It's not much but it's better than doing nothing to try to prevent it.

Minten looked better than Holmberg throughout the pre-season. Doesn’t make sense to send Minten down for the entire year when Holmberg can be sent down and called up without needing waivers. You might as well send Holmberg down, give Minten the 9 games and then make a final decision.

Could keep both up sign Gregor for league minimum and ice a 21 man roster.

McElhinney joins the Maple Leaf’s staff following a 16-year career in professional hockey. The 40-year-old suited up in 249 regular season NHL games split between the Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, the Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes, Ottawa Senators, Anaheim Ducks and Calgary Flames, captured two Stanley Cups with Tampa Bay (2020 and 2021) and represented Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Championship.

Minten earned a longer look based on merit, and I'm glad he's getting it. It would have been backwards to have him earn a spot, only to be sent back immediately anyway for cap reasons. It's still not a given that he's ready to be an NHL player, but he deserves the chance to prove it

This is really surprising... to have a young guy kinda come out of nowhere and force some decisions on management. You have to love it. Even if he only plays 9 games, it is exciting to know we at least have someone coming that could be an impact player, not to say anything about Cowen's potential.

Probably clear if Minten does not stay past the 9 games, the team is comfortable with Holmberg stepping in; I would agree, I feel he looks (regular season) capable.

No word on Jones in those tweets, so have to assume he was claimed?

We'll know at 2 pm EST about the waiver wire.
