Exactly there’s no better way to develop and become ready for this league except for playing in it and learning as you go.
If the player earns the opportunity.
If he isn't ready he should develop at a level he is ready for.

Not sure that's such a good idea. Minten already looks better, and you can easily give him some more games to see if he can actually handle it and recall Holmberg if not. But if you just give the spot to Holmberg, you lose out on Minten for the whole year
If I recall correctly, it had to do with Canada still having very strict COVID restrictions at the time. I don't think he has any issue with playing in Canada. He chose to come here at one point.I didn’t mind Bogosian but he didn’t want to play in Canada, if I remember correctly. We don’t need players here that don’t want to be here, imho at least

I think the Leafs keep Holmberg up and send down Minten.
Does he look that much better? I don't know about that one. They've both looked pretty good in their own right. Minten has the new shine to him. Holmberg is faster and has shown some good physicality/aggressiveness, and he was very good last year until he got injured.
Minten would benefit so much more playing tons of minutes in the WHL, get PP and PK minutes and a chance at the WJCs, instead of the 3rd/4th line minutes in the NHL. I don't even know how much PK he would play in the regular season. I really don't see the problem with him going back down for the full year. He isn't a top end player here, he's been good but people talk like he's a star.
It's very interesting that McMann wasn't waived. Hopefully this doesn't indicate they aren't signing Gregor
The challenge with both of those guys is that neither one of them can be the third line centre in the playoffs, so whichever one of them makes the team is likely sitting when the playoffs come around anyway. The Leafs will have to make a deal to fill the 3C position. At the very least Minten should stick around for his 9 game audition to see if he can beat out Holmberg for the 3C slot. He's earned that chance based on his pre-season play.
Or Minton might be good enough to play 3C in the playoffs. The challenge with both of those guys is that neither one of them can be the third line centre in the playoffs, so whichever one of them makes the team is likely sitting when the playoffs come around anyway. I don't know. Is he realistically a third line centre on a Stanley Cup team? That might be asking a heck of a lot from a kid his age.Or Minton might be good enough to play 3C in the playoffs.
I think minten could be. Big, sound defensively, and capable of producing seems like exactly what people here are going to want us to trade for.The challenge with both of those guys is that neither one of them can be the third line centre in the playoffs, so whichever one of them makes the team is likely sitting when the playoffs come around anyway. Agreed, but Tavares and Nylander on the same in is also a waste. This is really the ideal #2 line, you could make a case for Knies over Domi but no way should Nylander be on the 3rd line...massive waste
I believe he gets paid his $800k salary regardless of whether he's in the NHL or AHL, a one way contract. I agree that the Leafs need to give him an opportunity at some point this year to get more time with the big squad and further develop. Is there any risk of Holmberg going back to Europe if he's sent down? That would be bad. Whether he makes opening night or not, I think we're going to need him at some point this season.
