Minten has been really good... but not THAT good, ya know? Not sure it warrants waiving someone or whatever.

I've been wrong before, but this is likely just a test or whatever for next game, then he'll get sent down. He really hasn't dominated the WHL and the WJCs could be a good development step for him.

Like I said in another thread, I feel like his game translates better in pro than in juniors.

I could see him making the team soon.

Let him play the WJHC and dominate Junior would be my preference.
They could surprise us but it's hard to see him making the team out of camp.

Assuming Klingberg is fine and won't be put on LTIR, the only way Minten can make it is if Gregor isn't signed to even league minimum.

I think they'd rather Gregor play than Minten.

Yeah, I don't know. Minten making it definitely threw a wrench into things, in a good way but we had to make a trade regardless if Timmins was healthy.

Hockey's Mecca
Fraser Minten having a chance to make the Leafs isn't going to seem so impossible once they move either Jarnkrok or Lafferty and can easily fit him under the cap.

I don’t know if Willy at centre long term will work but I think it’s a pretty massive joke that Keefe didn’t even get to the regular season with him there.

I don't think trying him out in preseason was ever meant to be taken as a guarantee he would start the season there.

If they’re serious about it it will only work if they commit and give him time to adjust. Yeah he’d make mistakes and likely cost us goals but going back and forth on it is just doing what we’ve been doing previously and when he’s gotten looks at centre he’s been bad and looked lost.

Look if Keefe wants to call the experiment quits after 3 preseason games then fine. He’s the head coach after all. But it seems very premature to end this trial after they made a big deal about it earlier. And 3 preseason games is nowhere near enough time to call it a failure.

He didn't look bad, but it just wasn't the best use of his skill. I think the lines from today actually make a lot of sense if they can work. If they do work, Laf is for sure gone. I don't think they wanna lose Jarnkrok

Agreed, the leafs don’t have the center depth if Nylander doesn’t work at center (it won’t ) hence why they are giving Minten a serious look.

They called it a 'failure'?
I thought they were just giving him a look so they can determine if that is an option at some point.
I don't think they made a big deal out of it.

Includes Press availability of Keefe talking about Minten and Nylander.

But asked why Nylander was moved to the wing for Wednesday's practice in Gravenhurst, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said they want to continue to get Minten in the mix.

"It's not a reflection of Willy at all," the head coach said. "It's more we need to make a decision on Fraser, obviously. So you get him into a position to play with the group."

I think he deserves it more than Robertson.

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Marner
Domi-Tavares-Nylander
Knies-Minten-Jarnkrok
Gregor-Kampf-Reaves

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Klingberg
Giordano-Liljegren

Lafferty out for Gregor in (league minimum)? That should work cap-wise.

With all these kids making it difficult to send them down there’s no better time to flip 88 for a quality D man……..

you're right, we should trade the guy who just scored 40 goals to keep a kid who might score 40 points
