Martin Jones is all technique and no reflexes at his advanced age. I'm not sold on Woll, still mistake prone and has a recent history of injury stretches. If we had the cap space, I'd be tempted to carry 3 goalies to especially guard against the possibility of a Samsonov injury. The only move at this moment in time is trying to waive a healthy Jones during the period where many goalies are placed on waivers. There's always the possibility that Jones develops some nagging injury that puts him on the IR.

In 2 years, Minten is going to make Kampf redundant.

I just really hope they find a good way to manage Robertson's emotions when sending him down. I don't feel like we'll truly know what we have or don't have in him until he plays close to a full 82 games in one year, and unfortunately we're too good to gift a roster spot to someone who isn't ready.

What he needs is real run way to work with and get comfortable. Throw him on a team like San Jose or Arizona who can give him 50 free games to not worry about being sent down, and a guarantee he settles down and finds his groove, and pacing etc by the end of those 50 games. But good teams like us can't do that. Players like Barabanov and Marchment have to make immediate impacts or they can't occupy a roster spot on cup contenders.

Keep in mind that Nick Robertson has played no more than a season's worth of professional games in the past 3 seasons (82 games). The organization would be nuts to write him off without him getting a good run of pro games this season to evaluate his worth.

Gregor has impressive straight ahead speed. Unfortunately he's an offensive player who hasn't produced as an offensive player at the NHL level. And he's a below average defensive player. With that speed and a bad team like San Jose didn't even use him on the PK. Ignoring salary considerations, Lafferty is the far better player. I guess Gregor could make the team ahead of Holmberg although I prefer the potential of Holmberg's two way play.

I don’t get why we need Gregor and Lafferty. In a pinch you can play Lafferty as a top 9 forward but he’s nothing more than a 4th line player.

Agreed with Robertson. It's clear the Leafs value him highly anyway. He might be sent down to the Marlies to start the year but I don't see him finishing there. Same for Holmberg, who 100% should make the team over Reaves and even Kampf to me... but hey.

Gregor has been really good and the Leafs need more depth players with speed. The big problem is that Reaves is exactly the problem people said he'd be on the fourth line. Gregor and Kampf are fine 4th liners, but then you saddle them with a deadweight player, and it's noticeably disjointed. If they get matched up against a top line, any good coach will, they are probably doomed. Reaves isn't only a low skilled player, he can barely skate or keep up... it's a big concern. Signing a 36 year old puncher was so stupid when there's plenty of similar players that can do his job better.

This right now looks like what we can expect to see. Robertson picked a bad game to be invisible playing with the big boys when he's life and death to break with the big club.

I'd still rather trade Lafferty or Jarnkrok to make room for him but with him being waiver eligible it would have to be a favourable trade for Treliving

I think Robertson is just not conditioned enough. It's obvious they have been trying to kill our young guys to see who is in shape enough to do an 82 game grind and so far, only Knies and Minten seem to have been able to maintain their pace of play with lots of hockey in a short time and a bunch of travel.

He needs some time with the Marlies that is pretty obvious but I don't think he is going down and being forgotten. He will be back with the Leafs by November most likely when we eventually get an injury to our forwards.

Yup. I have been saying for a few days now and getting push back, but Gregor is taking Lafferty's job. If he accepts 800k or whatever Lafferty makes 1.15 which can be fully burried, that gives us an extra few hundred k which is important to fill the same role.

Lafferty seems to be thinking he has a spot on the team and is just cruising and I think he is mistaken.

I was advocating for Robertson starting the year off with the Leafs but after last nights game, he took a major step backwards and was basically invisible.

Gregor IMO has definitely earned a contract.

Knies, Tavares and Lafferty actually looked really good together. I know a lot of people questioned that line but I’d definitely like to see it some more.

I may have missed something but it seems like Sova survived the big cut, and the media is being suspiciously quiet about an undrafted invite getting this deep into camp.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't get an ELC from the Leaf before being sent down to Erie. He's not Marlies eligible.

Tavares does not need star linemates to be effective. That has always been evident from his time on the Islanders.
Give him a player like Knies and a 3rd wheel in Lafferty that can get up and down the ice, and he can produce adequately enough.
The wild card was always going to be how Nylander looks down the middle on his own line.

I’m going to the game on Saturday, in Detroit. With the latest round of cuts, what’s the odds I get to see most of the opening night lineup, as a tune-up for the regular season?

I know in most instances, they play the stars in the home half, and send a skeleton squad to the away half, in preseason matchups, but I’m REALLY hoping they want to get the team playing together to start the season off right

I'd think you'll see mostly the opening day line-up for the last preseason game.

Usually they do one Leafs roster and one Marlies roster in the last 2 games vs Detroit. With it being a road game I'm thinking you'll get the Marlies.

This is how it’s always been in the past. I’m just holding out hope they want a dry run for the opener with the whole lineup, and new lines

Most of the Marlies have been sent down by now, but they will be giving the few who remain one last game.

They are sticking around until the last 2 pre-season games.
The funniest thing is that Cowan can't go on the 'team bonding' exercise because he is underage and can't legally have a few pops.
