20g, 40pt bottom 6 forward who also kills penalties for barely $2 mil and 3 years remaining at that price? I’m willing to bet lots of teams would give up an asset for that. his cap hit isn’t going to be a detriment to moving him.

There are at least 10 teams who could fit him in with zero cap moves needed. And several more than could realistically make room

Garauntee he gets claimed if we put him on waivers
Again, I like the player. I don't think he is BOTH a 20g/40pt player and a bottom six forward. He didn't put those numbers up playing in the bottom six, he got them playing with some of the best players in the world.
I am not knocking the player or his value I am saying that most teams can't afford him and those that can may not need him or be teams that spend to the cap.

I would rather Klingberg start the season in LTIR and we keep Jarnkrok. What teams specifically do you think trade for him or make a waiver claim?

While the question is fair, the point is moot at this time.

Still a week of preseason to go. Teams can still have injuries that change their need and cap space situation.

Jarnkrok has value and he could very well be a need for another team hit by injuries by the time the season starts.

Agree completely. Those next two seasons ok Jarnkrok and the amount of other players potentially made available by teams trying to get under the cap are factors that might allow CJ to slip through waivers.

The emergence of Minten and Cowan to go along with Knies, Woll, and hopefully Robertson, Timmins, and Holmberg would really help keep our competitive window open longer. If they can establish themselves we can easily re-sign both Nylander and Marner.

-Minten (925K) replaces Kampf (2.4M) or Tavares (11M) for entry level money.
-Knies (925K) replaces Bertuzzi (5.5M) next year.
-Holmberg (800K) replaces Jarnkrok (2.1M) or Lafferty (1.15M)
-Timmins (1.1M) replaces Klinberg (4.15M)
-Woll (766K) replaces Samsonov (3.5M)
-Robertson (796K) replaces either Domi (3M) or Jarnkrok (2.1M)

It won't all work out but that potentially saves us anywhere between 4M to 23M to spend on other needs.

Steeves, Holmberg, Abruzzese, McMann can all go on waivers for all I care.

Don’t see them being valuable for us in the future.. we have enough guys to fill the roster as is. I prefer Gregor over all of them, and he’s a dime a dozen player as well.

Ideally we keep both Bertuzzi and Knies. That’s a really good 1-2 punch on the left wing.

My opening night lineup:

Assuming Timmins is injured.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Robertson
Jarnkrok - Domi - Nylander
Lafferty - Kampf - Reaves**

Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Klingberg
Giordano - Liljegren

Sammy
Woll

** In full transparency I would send Reaves down in favor of signing Noah Gregor at League Min

Hopefully Minten see's action in these final three games with opposing lineups closer to what you'll see opening day.

He's been the biggest camp suprise imo.

Everyone knew Knies was very good but it was more polarizing around Minten.

His skating looks to have improved and he's shown a very strong 200ft game with good offensive skills.

He won't be making the team right now but he looks like someone that also isn't that far away.

Holmberg is waiver exempt for another 33 NHL games for this season, so it's not necessary. To me he's been good and should make the team, but his waiver status will see him go down for a bit.

I don't prefer Gregor over him, but I do prefer him over Abruzzese and Steeves. McMann has been injured so it's hard to judge his performance. Sounds like he'll probably play the last few games.

I think McMann is the only one on that list that requires waivers. Hopefully he gets a few games in for the remainder of the preseason to see how he has progressed. He was a player to watch before his injury. Sort of like Knies without the high end stick skill-offense/finishing ability. A big body, physical, good along the boards and with good speed. Would fit nicely on the 4th line. Gregor has more experience and similar player. Ok with either one though.

Assuming Klingberg and Jarnkrok can go for October 11th, everyone else is healthy and Timmins ends up on LTIR.

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Knies Tavares Lafferty
Domi Nylander Jarnkrok
Gregor Kampf Reaves

Rielly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Gio Liljegren

Sammy
Woll

LTIR: Murray, Muzzin, Timmins, Gambrell

Cap space ~600k depending on how much Gregor signs for.

My guess is we see it today

After tonight we have 2 more games. Have to think camp gets cut down to maybe 30 guys. Vets need reps, and then I expect them to cut guys like Minten and Cowan as they have no real chance to go join their teams.

Then they will likely keep 3-4 extra forwards and 3-4 extra D to battle for the depth positions left available.

Yup, sounds right. Get down to the couple question marks. You’d think today, only a week left.

With McMann coming off injury perhaps they can get him some conditioning games in the AHL?

I think Gregor getting a contract is a near certainty at this point. He's been stapled to the 4th line all camp. But it's likely at the expense of Robertson being the 13th forward/1st injury call-up, rather than Reaves being waived.
