Slightly surprised Abruzzese and Steeves got sent down already, although they weren't all that good in the games they played. Hirvonen has been very disappointing, albeit I have never been very high on him.

Also surprised Hildeby wasn't kept as a back-up for a bit longer.

Cowen and Minten sticking around I guess?

My opening night lineup:

Assuming Timmins is injured.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Bertuzzi - Tavares - Robertson
Jarnkrok - Domi - Nylander
Lafferty - Kampf - Reaves**

Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Klingberg
Giordano - Liljegren

Sammy
Woll

** In full transparency I would send Reaves down in favor of signing Noah Gregor at League Min

--------------------------------------------------

I would waive Lafferty and sign Gregor personally, if that's what it came down to. Both skate well but Gregor's a smarter player and we could get him cheaper.

Reaves has no business sniffing this lineup but obviously that's been decided already

Here is our lineup after cuts:

Forwards (19):

Tyler Bertuzzi, Kyle Clifford, Easton Cowan, Max Domi, Pontus Holmberg, Dylan Gambrell, Noah Gregor, Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, Matthew Knies, Sam Lafferty, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, Bobby McMann, Fraser Minten, Ryan Reaves, Nicholas Robertson, John Tavares, Ryan Tverberg

Defence (11):
Simon Benoit, TJ Brodie, Mark Giordano, John Klingberg, Mikko Kokkonen, William Lagesson, Max Lajoie, Timothy Liljegren, Jake McCabe, Morgan Rielly, Conor Timmins,

Goalies (4)
Martin Jones, Keith Petruzzelli, Ilya Samsonov, Joseph Woll

McMann being around still must be a cap thing for IR? Is he skating?

OoOOOOooohh yeaahh.

Kyle Clifford making the team 100%

I'm going to go on record in saying I don't see Abruzzese ever making an impact with this team. We already have younger guys who look more threatening. Steeves I am on the fence. No one else from that group moved the needle... not that they were supposed to I guess. Plus we know McMann is also in waiting, as is Holmberg, both of whom seem ready to impact a game if given the chance.

I think Nicky Bobby is destined for the Marlies. He needs reps more than anything and the AHL is better suited for him at this point in time.
I would guess the answer to that is yes... seems to me he is floundering a bit. Let him get some games, some momentum and then bring him up.

Willy didn't make the cut? Damn!

Assuming Klingberg and Jarnkrok can go for October 11th, everyone else is healthy and Timmins ends up on LTIR.

Bertuzzi Matthews Marner
Knies Tavares Lafferty
Domi Nylander Jarnkrok
Gregor Kampf Reaves

Rielly Brodie
McCabe Klingberg
Gio Liljegren

Sammy
Woll

LTIR: Murray, Muzzin, Timmins, Gambrell

Cap space ~600k depending on how much Gregor signs for.
This right now looks like what we can expect to see. Robertson picked a bad game to be invisible playing with the big boys when he's life and death to break with the big club.

I'd still rather trade Lafferty or Jarnkrok to make room for him but with him being waiver eligible it would have to be a favourable trade for Treliving

Yup. Was really rooting for him and I think he does a lot of things well... but he seems too hyped up. He needs to learn how to pace himself a bit. Plenty of talent.

I wanted him to make the team and I think he had a decent pre season and he was noticeable but didn't quite have the finish.

Nothing wrong after all the injuries hes had to go get some time there and work on some things. When there is an injury or 2 bring him back up.

Lots of time left to figure it out.
