I don't think playing him at wing in one practise (and maybe one game) is a guarantee he would start the season there either.

I think there's an awful lot of blowing things out of proportion to fit a particular agenda being practised by several posters (not directed at you).
Playing Nylander at C in a contract year is a bad idea. Good for him but bad for us.
But why does Calgary decimate their D, before the start of a season, where there is pressure to make the playoffs?

Islanders have no cap space to take on more cap. Schneider isn’t that good, surely we’d aim higher if doing a trade to improve the D.
Not exactly decimating their d by making that trade. Brodie and Tanev are basically the same player and Tanev is that right shot RD who'd be perfect beside Rielly and Brodie would be the left shot LD that'd be perfect beside Andersson or Weegar. Zadorov I'm sure they could replace on their 3rd pair short term until Kylington comes back from whatever he's dealing with and Jarnkroks depth scoring would be something they'd probably prefer tbh. Again though, probably not gonna happen just thinking out loud type of thing that I thought would make our d core much deeper and one that Treliving would prefer to have. Both are FA at seasons end so maybe he just waits until then to go after them if he likes them.

Why bad for us? If he doesn't play well, it lowers his potential salary, and if he plays well we have a better team, better change of winning, and our C replacement for when JT leaves or moves to the wing.

Let's find out what he can do there.
That comment wasn't meant to be sent. I erased it after typing it last night after thinking about it. Idk why when you open this site again a day later the comment you erased automatically comes back.

No problem - yeah, the site can suck sometimes, particularly when on a phone. Nodoby's prefect.

Being able to have Knies and Mints on the 3rd line makes this team so much toughewr to match against. Though i doubt Mints will be on the roster long term this year. I'm guessing he gets an audition for 9 games or until Timmins is ready to return. Which is fine.

Main takeaways from camp. Not judging the pro players TOO much because well, it’s preseason:

- Easton Cowan looks like he is going to be a gamer.
- Matthew Knies looks faster. Wouldn’t be surprised if he slumps around the 40ish game mark, but what a steal of a second round pick.
- Minten looks great. Seems to be the type of player who is going to be a better pro than junior. I think he can play in the NHL this season, but don’t think it’s best for the Leafs. I also think it’s slightly better odds that playing junior and (fingers crossed) representing Canada is best for his development.
- Holmberg has not been talked about enough this camp. He should have been given a shot at 3C, and I personally think he is going to eventually force Keefes hand there. Although you never know with coach.
- Reaves looks good. There I said it. He’s not skilled, not the fastest, but can play a good cycle game and muck it up. Seems far better than Simmonds ever did in a Leafs jersey. Am I crazy?
- Jarnkrok looked good in his first preseason game. Brad traded for him once, he must see something.
- Gregor brings an element of speed that’s noticeable almost every shift. We’ve been too slow the last few years. I like him.
- Not crazy about how Bert has looked with m and m at all. Let’s see how they look in regular season. So far has been underwhelming.
- Because of all of the above. Sam Lafferty is my cap casualty if I had to make a tough decision. I can see the logic in sending Holmberg down to keep Lafferty for Asset management. But this is almost the opposite of the Minten situation. I think Holmberg can greatly benefit from NHL games and Lafferty seems like a bigger version of Kerfoot, to me anyways.
- Defense looks suspect at best. We’ve been a good defensive team over the last few years since Keefe has taken over. I think a lot of that is due to forward play. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if this is Brads #1 priority.

In conclusion, Leaf’s are the best. Habs and Sens stink. Go Leafs Go!

Can’t sign Gregor and have Minten in the lineup. Math doesn’t work. It’s a shame they couldn’t get Samsonov’s contract at a lower number. We’re only a couple hundred thousand off from being able to carry one extra body.

Minted has earned his 9 games, at least, and gives us a real 1/2A/2B lineup. Hope that Lafferty survives waivers, but there’s enough options if he doesn’t (aka Holmberg).

Bertuzzi - Matthews - Marner
Domi - Tavares - Jarnkrok
Knies - Minten - Nylander (this is such a CHEEKY line)
Gregor - Kampf - Reaves

Rielly - Brodie (I think that Liljegren should get the spot here)
McCabe - Klingberg
Giordano - Liljegren
Benoit

Issue is it’s tight once Timmins is back, we’d have to send down Benoit + Giordano or one of the forwards.

I’d do:

Rielly - Liljegren
Brodie - Klingberg
McCabe - Timmins

I don’t really see the Gregor hype. We have some many guys like him. Rather have Minton and just keep Lafferty who has better offensive upside than Gregor
