According to the poster, Renegade Stylings (who works in the business), posted saying the Rangers and LA Kings have a MAJOR interest in Nikita Scherbak.

He said this is in the prospects portion of HF in the "Rumors of teams liking certain players" thread.

Now I mean I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but if true what do you guys think?

isnt that poster the color guy for a WHL team? if so he probably would notice something like that.

many teams are salivating over this kid. im sure more than those 2. hes got a nice skillset and great wheels. plays a very north american game. this kid has an edge and uses it. possesses a lethal shot and isnt afraid to get dirty to score goals. needs to fill out. tall and lean.

would be very happy with this kid as our pick. would also entertain moving to get him. he may be around near where we pick.

sadly, we wont move on the young russian, our pick will be another american kid off the usndt. still sticking with local kid sonny milano as our target and i have no problem with him at all.

dynamic skater. slick hands. offensive difference maker. very smart player. equal parts scorer and playmaker. exactly the kind of twitchy player we lack. not a big guy but plays much bigger.

This is the conversation we had on the thread.

Two teams I know have major interest in Scherbak include the Rangers and Kings.

Where'd you hear this?

Didn't really 'hear' it anywhere.

I work in the business and know the Rangers, especially, have watched him close all year. Included in that were some long interviews with him once the Blades season was over.

Cool. Thanks for sharing. What is his potential like? NHL comparison(s)?

I think he has the top end potential to be a first line NHL winger, but I would say he's more like a good pick for a future top 6. As far as NHL comparisons go, he looks a lot like Hossa on the ice. He's got good size and skates similarly to him. That might be the best comparison I have, as long as he continues to get bigger and stronger because Hossa is quite the horse.

I know he likes to model his game after Datsyuk, but there's not a terribly strong comparison there.

Well yeah, most teams would be interested in Scherbak. But being around him all year and seeing which scouts are interviewing him on a weekly basis gives you a bit more insight into who's watching him the closest.

Montreal is another team that I know has shown quite a bit of interest in him.

I would be ecstatic if true.

So how far up would we have to trade up? Would be awesome to get a guy like Scherbak in the pool.

I like it. He's dynamic, has size and a fast thinker on offense. Potential top end pick of the entire draft.

I also believe Renegade, very good source for prospects, I recommend every one check his posts throughout the season.

Well, if we advance past the 2nd round, we'd have to trade very, very far up.

Ugh, so many bad scenarios yet only one really good far fetched one ;)

I don't think he'll rise, but he should be around where we select at #18.

Not so sure. He could go higher if the right team likes him. I don't see alot of the players who are locks for any particular spot. Just seems wide open right now. I bet all the draft guides will vary more than usual this year.

Assuming we still have the pick, I like Dylan Larkin.

My biggest question is his offensive upside. I don't believe he has top end scoring potential, but I think he has a shot to be a useful, well-rounded player.

I'm high on Larkin. You better believe teams will find his gutsy, NHL playoff type U18 attractive where he played through pain. He kept the boat steady by staying in and keeping the lineup the same. I have the same concerns, but Hitchcock and Bjork aren't exactly the best wingers for him to showcase that. He's a lock for a top ten pick if he and Eichel switch places.

Scherbak would be a money pick. Exactly the kind of player who would do well in the type of system we're playing now. He can really move and can make plays with pace off the rush. Likes to lay the body as well.

For those who watch the WHL, I'd like to hear your opinions on Brett Pollock:

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=84111

From the outside, it looks like he's starting to peak. Having a helluva WHL playoff with the Oil Kings. A center with good size. How is his skating?

If Pollock doesn't sneak into the end of the 1st round, maybe . . . somehow, the Rangers could trade into the beginning of the 2nd round (somewhere between picks 31 and 40) to get him.

I would do it just for the halibut ! :propeller

No really, that kid has been very good. He's a clunky skater but that may improve, he's a tall lanky 18 yr old. Nice hands, needs some confidence to his game(which may be happening this playoff), at his size he could be alot to handle around the net. I think he projects as a winger.

A lot of mock drafts have us pick Milano. How is he?

see my post above re. milano.

fwiw, and it aint much  i was in early on scherby. i pimped him on this very thread.

ive watched him all season. very complete player and not at all the "typical russian" even though i absolutely dont buy into that anyway. this kid is special.

if hes there near where we are, we better make every effort to make him our pick. absolute home run type pick. hes a scorer with some snarl. he adds 15 lbs of muscle and hes gonna be a bigtime stud.

scherbak, buchnevich and duke would add an enormous amount of offensive talent to this mostly vanilla organization.

milano works too. hes a very good offensive prospect. speed. skill. dangle. smarts and tough as nails.

 thanks for the info, BN.

I'm hoping that they add some quality forward depth to the prospect pool. Preferably a center or two. In the given scenario, Eric Cornel would probably also be available.

Haven't seen Scherbak play but sounds promising! I'm really really impressed with what I've seen from Kevin Fiala. He's probaly going to be playing with Switzerland in the WC, going to be exciting if he an keep playing the way he did in the SHL.

Good stuff, though you 'getting in early' on a Russian prospect is hardly a new thing ;)

A Center would be nice. Cornel is a guy we've talked about on here, can't see him making it to the late teens.

This is one of the more wide open drafts in recent history. So many variables, I think this year is the hardest to predict in some time. Fiala could go #10 or #30. Drafts less than two months away. Most of the 1st round talent has not separated themselves from the pack. Fiala could do that since he's one of the few still playing relevant hockey.

You really think he'll vault that high? I see him as a late first at best. He's certainly improved quite a bit, but that improvement also coincided with a move to the wing. That might temper expectations a bit.

I think Pollock, despite having a great playoffs, will be a late 2nd to 3rd round pick. Would be a solid pick if he drops otherwise. He'd look nice in a Ranger uniform, but I think we'd be better off with a guy like Cornel or Quennville (and that's if we trade to get a 2nd from someone).

Very good! He's slick, speedy, agile, and more. He'd be around where we pick. Like BN said before, this draft will be pretty illusive in that players will be jumped around everywhere from their projected slots. It'll definitely be fun to watch.

His name is going around quicker than the speed of light. You're most likely right with the Switzerland deal with the WC. He's definitely a riser, but I would say he'd rise just outside the top 10 if anything. Another name I'd look into is Guelph's Robby Fabbri. Another riser on the rock.
