Hey gang. Hit up Local Eatery tonight in Leaside for some beers and steak frites:

Food is always good there, decent beer selection, good place to hit up any time. Have had a good number of team dinners there with the kids teams, which is a gong show, right? 30-40 people showing up all at once, they handle it well there, big fan of the Local.

Totally agree. Jackson the manager there is a pretty solid dude as well.

I did notice though that they're altering the Happy Hour menu with no more full pints and prices overall going up as well.

There are few things more painful than a kids' team dinner. I think the only thing more painful is the birthday party at Skyzone. God, I hate that place.

Oh the SkyZone party is a tough one lol.. just a lot of time to wait. Had my share of those, the kids are beyond that age now thankfully.

Team dinners aren’t so bad once they are a bit older, if they can sit at a table in their own and just not be embarrassing your good to go on a few drinks and some conversation, not too bad. Hell, I spend a couple hours with these people 3 or 4 days a week anyways, it’s basically my social circle lol..

The younger boys team isn’t quite there yet, last one at a preseason tourney was rough, but still better then a couple years ago.

The boys take longer to mature. I can leave the older girls at a table on their own, and their behaviour is never a concern (the way they dress is a different issue, mind you). But a table of 10 year old boys? Yeah, no one, parents included, is coming out of that one unscathed.

This is another great little spot on the Danforth between Greenwood and Coxwell, "The Wren":

Have any Canadians here ever purchased an EZ Pass for travel through the US?
Driving to Florida at Christmas and I don't want to have to deal with Tolls.

Many US tolls now do pay by mail, for what it's worth. There are no more toll booths in NY or MA, for example.

As an ex-Florida resident, is there any reason you're not flying to Florida, if you don't mind my asking?

Any time! I grab the odd sour here and there. I'm sure you'll like it.

Post some pics and your thoughts if you track it down!
Sorry, I forgot about this. No pics but I remember being disappointed that when I poured it out, it wasn't purple like it was in the pic you posted. Maybe they put some food coloring in the tap where you were? In any case, the beer was very good. I rarely drink APA/IPA's these days so it was a bit of an impulse buy after seeing the pic you posted but still, it was very good!

Hey look, it was my HF birthday yesterday lol.. 17 years, one playoff round win lol..
Yikety yikes, when you put it like that, it really sinks in how badly this franchise has sucked!

I'll put it another way, I've been watching for over 50 years and I've yet to see this team even make it as far as the finals.

Way cheaper to drive and we like our road trips.

Would you suggest not getting the EZ Pass?

I’m in the process of finally cutting the cord with cable. Leaf games are on either Sportsnet or TSN. If I subscribe to both of those apps will I be guaranteed to get every game? I’m in Burlington

Appreciate any insight
Did you take the plunge ACC? Was thinking of this last night watching the Eagles-Dolphins game as TSN's lousy feed stopped over and over again to buffer..

Don't now how it is a telecommunications company can't stream a game well in 2023. SN does it so much better, which is a shame because in general I like TSN more.

Not yet, still scared I’ll have trouble watching the Leafs.
I’ve always had DAZN so I can watch my Steelers, never had a problem with that.

Recently returned from Ireland/Scotland trip, I thought I saw something out there, but was likely the effect of too many whiskies.

I guess my next question is how often you plan to make these sort of trips.

I had a SunPass when I lived in Miami, as I worked on Key Biscayne and the only road out there is a toll road. Florida loves toll roads because they have no state income tax.

But if it's a 1x/year thing for you, not sure if an EZPass is worth it. I don't even have one and I grew up in NY (granted, I didn't need to use the Thruway for work.)

It’s my understanding that the pass is a one time cost and then any toll charges go onto a credit card. I’m not sure how many tolls there are between Buffalo and Tampa but I’m assuming the administration charges would be greater than the pass as well as the convenience of using the ez pass lane.
I believe I can use the pass in every state we pass through except for Georgia.

I really hadn't listened to Tool's last album that came out in 2019. Got around to a bit of it over the weekend and this tune was pretty insane:

I like Tool, but I think I actually like A Perfect Circle more. The arrangement on APC albums is simply incredible.

I-77 and I-90 are both toll roads, and once you're in Florida you'll probably have a bunch but I know the Atlantic Coast and the Panhandle better than the Gulf Coast.

I do not recall any toll roads in Georgia, but that doesn't make driving through Atlanta any less miserable.

Enjoy your trip. You are smart going to Florida in the winter; that's the dry season. I miss it sometimes; it takes me back to a simpler time in my life.

@ACC1224 just to prepare you for your trip to/through the American South, allow me to give you a reminder of what you'll deal with on the road:
