I filled up my wife's car for $3.39 a gallon today. That is the lowest that I have seen in about a month. The local BP, a few blocks away from home, just lowered their price to $3.79. Two weeks ago, it was $3.99.

Edit: The BP went down to $3.69 and yesterday (Wed) it went to $3.67. I have no idea why the 2 cents?

I filled up Sunday before going to Alabama at $3.03/gallon. Saw today it's $3.35 at the same station

My mother had a medical scare and spent 3 days in the hospital in Athens AL. I'd have spent double that to get down there but I was glad I got it on the cheap, too.

She ok??

She is now, thanks for asking. My mother isn't as big as a minute (weighs 86 lbs, I found out) and was having trouble breathing. Turns out her breathing difficulties were using up any calories she had. They did some oxygen treatments, antibiotics, and a nebulizer at the hospital and now she has all that at home. She doesn't LIKE having to be on the treatments but so far she's being compliant. They gave her double food trying to fatten her up a bit but she only ate her usual amount of "not much with some unsweetened tea, please"

Glad shes feeling better. Pulmonary cachexia is tough, and the not eating is partly due to having to stop and breathe between bites. The air they suck into their stomachs because of this makes them feel full.

Me: OK DNA test has arrived. I wonder if there are any surprises?

DNA test: You are so damned white you should sue the Klan for trademark infringement.

Me: Yeah I know.

I haven't done a test but according to our genealogical records the least melanin challenged of my ancestors was from um, Holland. So yeah, the only color I have is from freckles and Lancome.

That was what one of the RN's told us, too. She was expending so much energy to breathe that she was just exhausted. She's never been much of an eater where quantity is concerned but she eats a LOT of times in a day. We knew all about second breakfasts and elevenses and so forth long before we read Lord of the Rings. That was life. We couldn't go on an afternoon's drive without having to stop for picnics (plural).

British Isles, western Europe, and Scandinavia

Well just got laid off from work. If anyone needs a printing press operator with 25+ years of experience give me a yell.
I'm sorry to hear that. I had no idea that was your vocation. My dad was in the printing business til I was in Jr. High, then taught it at Hume Fogg and Pearl Cohn later on. One of my first memories is being given small metal rectangular pieces and a box from the Linotype machine to make words (I read very early). Most of the presses were electric but they still had some of the old Linotypes for certain jobs. So I have a special place in my heart for printing. Wish we had such a need in the animation business! I'm not sure if there are still any pencil factories around but we used printers for embossing back when I worked at Reliance (Years Ago!) and Cosmolab used printers for making their make up pencils. Just looked it up and Musgrave is in Shelbyville and Cosmolab is still in Lewisburg. You might try there!

Yeah I know about those places, they just don't have the best reputation in the world. I have a couple of places I am going to check out that I'm pretty sure would hire me on the spot. I'm just more or less taking this week to reload a bit, get some stuff done around the house and then I'll start making the rounds.

There are lots of printing places around, it just a matter of how far I want to drive tbh.

I did talk to my counterpart on days and he is trying to get me brought back as a helper if nothing else. They just fired the plant manager and if the rumors are true the guy coming back to run things used to own the company years ago and he listens a whole lot to this operator. So hopefully that happens at least in the short term.

I had a friend at NEC or whatever they're called now for 30+ years who got laid off (again) recently. He's now working at Nissan, I'm guessing his graphic days are over.

I know of several people within the last week or two that have gotten laid off outside of those that were with me obviously. Seems based on news reports lots of companies are starting to dump people. Lets just hope that isn't a trend.

My sister and my best friend from home both worked there back in the 80's--she in Huntsville, he in Ohio. I can't remember what they changed names to. Sis was in graphics and industrial design, BF was in the finance end. I read both their resumes and understood nothing they did -- but I could spell it, so that's why they had me proofing.
