Yeah if there's a choice to be made between keeping Danny or Kirk I take Danny every day of the week. He was starting to figure it out at the plate last season and is a significantly better defensive catcher. Moreno's superior hit tool and decent speed for a catcher makes me think he could be the better player between him and Kirk as soon as this season.

If they Jays land Ramirez, at least on paper you gotta think that's the most stacked batting line up in the league.
In the AL for sure. I think the Dodgers line up would be a hair better but I think our pitching overall might be a bit better. Would be one hell of a World Series if they met.

Jays are just playing hard to get. Make it seem like Kirk is such a big piece that when you “reluctantly” give in and include him in the deal, Cleveland feels like they got a huge win and take something else out of the deal.

I don't believe this rumor. While Kirk makes sense for Cleveland (as would Danny), why would he be the sticking point? Value-wise, we would need to be trading some extremely high end prospects (who might have more value).

I would love to have Ramirez, but I don't think Cleveland is truly that far from competing for a playoff spot. They are projected 8 out with crappy starting (despite their potential) and only 3 regulars with 2 WAR or higher (including Ramirez).

They also have a gaping hole at 1B/DH in their projected lineup.

I take this the other way - both Fangraphs and PECOTA have them as the 10th best team in the AL, they don't want to spend money and while they have a very good farm system its not really going to overlap with Ramirez if they don't give him a new contract.

To me they're basically a treadmill team except in baseball treadmill teams don't make the playoffs. Since we know they're not adding payroll I'd be trying to move him ASAP.

From Rotochamp. Projected 2022 stats.
Ofcourse JRam is missing for Jays.

I'm not suggesting that they spend more.

I guess I am just higher on Plesac, Quantrill, Civale and McKenzie. The 1B/DH conundrum seems like it should be extremely easy to fix.

Right now, Mitch Moreland would be an upgrade despite coming off of a terrible year. The issue isn't that they have bad options per se, it is that they don't have options. Reyes should take one of the two spots, but their next guy is Bobby Bradley (though if he breaks out, this is moot).

Also, one of the biggest flaws of using a FG-type analysis is that it undervalues what a good pen does for a team (call that the "luck" factor)

It drives me batty that all the projections have Randal in RF and Teo on the bench. Teo was the 20th best OF in baseball last year by FG. If we were taking someone out every game, it would be Gurriel (though a HUGE part of his struggles were Dunedin/Buffalo-related)

I agree but with the jays it looks like its going to again be a rotating DH so what do you do?
Could we just put Hernandez in RF & figure out a DH average?

Without trades, as long as there are 3 catchers on the roster, the default DH should be Kirk.

From what I've seen, all the projections on his bat are grossly undervaluing him.

At some point after everyone has actually played some games, we can re-assess whether there is a platoon at 2B, whether Biggio AND Espinal play every day, whether Kirk is DH and hopefully not have 3 C (if Kirk hasn't stolen full-time DH).

Also, I wouldn't shed any tears if Greg Bird somehow forced his way onto the roster.

Todays lineup vs Orioles

Espinal 2B
Bichette SS
Bird 1B
Jansen C
Palacios RF
Groshans 3B
Smith CF
Lopez DH
Lukes LF

Berrios pitching

Kirk could very well be one of the main pieces in a trade like that. He was a 50 FV prospect last year and hasn't done anything in the majors to lower that projection.

I think the idea that he couldn't be the sticking point in a major trade is a little unfair. He's a really valuable piece and it makes perfect sense that the Jays would be trying to keep him and Cleveland would be trying to get him.

Sorry, let me clarify. I don't think Kirk would be the sticking point, because I think they would ask for someone like Martinez (who we might value more).

While Kirk is a very good prospect, we have 3 C on the roster and have a top 10 in baseball C prospect who likely will force his way onto the roster this year.

I think the package will be highlighted by Kirk and Groshans but not Moreno. I don't think Jays will trade Moreno at all, but one of Groshans/Orelvis are probably on the table for this and maybe a Sam Robberse does it.

I think the Jays have played this in a very smart way. We want JRam, but now with Chapman on board we don't NEED him. This has to help our negotiation here.

Two major leaguers? Guriel and one of Pearson or Kirk? I think we can make something work here. I believe we will.
Ideally Biggio is part of any package for Ramirez. There’s no spot left for him after a trade for him.
