Quick, Carter and Richards have very reasonable contracts...especially considering how much they have meant to the team. You are going to see Kane/Toews making a ton more. I'm really looking for Richards to have a bounce back season next year.

Our 2C is going to be getting paid less than 6m for the forseeable future.

Other 2Cs, guys like Stastny/O'Reilly et. al. are going to see 7 million plus.

Our starting goaltender makes 5.8 cap.

Other similar starting goaltenders make 6-8.

Part of the reason this team works so well. All hail DL.

this off season seems so anticlimactic...a little boring..but we are champs so really can't complain

3rd boring summer in a row. Kept everyone in 2012. Lost a couple guys because of the cap last year, and Bernier had to be dealt. Basically keeping everyone again this summer.

Different than 2011, very different from 2010 certainly, and even 2009. In 2008, Doughty was new, as were Stoll and Greene. Then in 2007, the Kings changed a quarter of the roster with Handzus, Nagy, Calder, Preissing, and Stuart in a span of about 24 hours.

I think I remember Lombardi saying something about that early on when he just kept having to get guys to fill out a roster. He wanted to get to the point where he didn't really have to do anything on July 1st.

Bernier was pretty exciting. Half this board acted like Dean got hosed. Turns out it worked out pretty good as it helped us get Gaborik and ultimately a second ring.

I wouldn't say "hosed," but it was a poor trade. I'm glad that the Gaborik deal was made, and that was certainly among his best ever (right up there with the Williams deal), but the Bernier trade is still a major disappointment and a missed opportunity. I wish he'd used those assets to acquire defensive help, because we might be in a better position now.

@lakingsinsider: LA not re-signing Fraser, Campbell, so they're set to become free agents. Hearing there's a "chance" Schultz re-signs.

King should be, must be, resigned.
Our LW with him signed are: Gaborik, Pearson, King, Clifford.

Pearson is penciled as our top6 LW but he is rookie with almost none experience. What would Kings do if for some reason he hits some slump, which is pretty realistic expectation (dreaded sophomore season), or he gets injured? Without King on roster Kings can tray moving up Clifford :shakehead or maybe Andy, both ill suited for top 6 role.
While King isn't top 6 winger he can fill that role much much better than any other player available.

Keeping King gives Kings much needed roster flexibility, he must be signed at least until current prospects can step in and take over his role-2 years minimum.

With Vey gone there is no reason to move Nolan either, he is tough kid with some experience(and two rings) on cheap contract. He is perfect #13/14 forward.

I would argue that Benoit Pouliot is a much better player available for 3rd line LW then Dwight King. Pouliot is more physical, faster, can fight if need be, has more skill. But with that all said, I dont mind Dwight King and Pouliot will likely be more expensive anyways.

I was thinking that during the finals. pouliot is just Dwight King with anger.

Oh wow, Kings moving on from Andrew Campbell? I'm surprised. Happy, but surprised. Thought the Kings brass had high expectations for him. Our board never did, dude is not very good.

Campbell probably wants a better shot at cracking a 6-7 role, which he won't get in LA. As anticipated, not surprised that they may bring Schultz back for depth purposes.

i was happy for him when he got his 3 games this year. I was hoping he would develop enough to replace suderi we got regher instead. I wish him nothing but the best where ever he ends up and i hope he gets a regular nhl gig.

They're not all gonna be top-pairing NHL d-men. He's demonstrably grown since being drafted and looked to do his role well in the #6 during his call up. Hope he'll catch on somewhere, but he's done his time in the minors and it's time for him to move on to an org with more oppotunity to snag a spot. Simple defensive player, nothing wrong with that.
