Ottawa is probably stronger on paper than us next year at the moment. I would hate if they beat us to the playoffs.

Makes getting a goalie really important.

4 beers and a couple shots deep but.. I think GMKA has hit a lot of the right moves since he's taken over the healm at GM.

Also saw a tweet that people saying we took 2 small-ish centers this draft when we already have TT and Cozens.

I liked day 1 for the most part. I like what the analysts as well as a couple people are saying about the picks we made that have watched a lot more of these prospects than myself.

However we do need a couple D & a stop gap goalie/long term solutions until our prospects develop. But .. with Power, Krebs, Quinn, Peterka, Levi, + quite a few others in our 'pipeline' I do however feel very comfortable with what has been done, along with our newish hires in front office ala an analytic perspective.

I love the culture he's building and players coming in, wearing the Sabres sweater with pride and love, going into the f***in trenches with the bonds made with most of the guys weve got. It's been fun. Very much so.

I like the direction. I feel hopefully optimistic about our future.

Also, we have beat... How many of the teams in the playoffs this past season? Exactly. Couldn't stand a chance a few seasons ago

If we sign Nico Sturm and Justin Braun and Eric Comrie I will be content.

Sturm, 4 years x 2.5. Make him the new version of Larry, get his minutes up to 14 a night, he'll be scoring more points, may eventually center Asplund and Olofsson which would be a ridiculous 4th line.

Braun, 2 years x 2.5. He may prefer to sign with a SC contender. Would be OK with overpaying to get him, but just a two year deal.

Comrie, 2 years x 2.5. He gets a chance to be an NHL starter. Solid pedigree, a little undersized, he was knocking on the door in Winnipeg for years, last season was the first time he got to play double digit games in the NHL. He won't be .920 as a 1A, but .910 or .911 would be my expectation in year 1. If you just give him 40 games, Anderson/UPL can split the other 42.

It's not like they or Detroit aren't also trying to build their way to respectability.

I'm not sure I agree. They have a couple legit stars that the Sabres don't, but I think the Sabres are deeper, and unless Stutzle takes a big step forward I think their center spine might be a liability.

But yes, the Sabres getting a goalie is critical. I'm on board with building a team around good vibes...but rolling out ~60 games of sub-.900 save percentage is a quick way to ruin good vibes.

I think we only need 15.5 million to get to the cap floor (after buying out or burying Bjork)

Olofsson 4.5
Braun 3.0
Comrie 2.5
Sturm 2.5
Bryson 1.25
7th D 1.0
Ruotsalainen .75

Lowest payroll in the league two years running, too easy

Assuming he waives, and we're Buffalo so he probably won't, I'm OK with taking EJ from Colorado with a 7th attached. Try to do better than a 7th of course.

Guerin specifically talked about how Fluery/Talbot was an elite goalie tandem. So...probably not?
My first thought was Talbot... But I've just looked ar their cap situation & it seems that it's not as desperate as most of us would have expected. They have a competitive team & they don't need to make any more major cao moves. Guerin has done a nice job there.

IF they keep both Fluery and Talbot, it certainly will continue to pump up the goalie market.

Toronto, Edmonton, Washington, NJ, Detroit, Arizona, and Buffalo all looking for upgrades. Is Chicago looking for another goalie? What is NYR looking for backup wise?

Available via UFA: Campbell, Husso, Kuemper, Holtby
Available via trade (maybe) one of Samsonov/Vanacek, Hill, Varlamov (maybe)

Adams needs to solve this before we are left with another scrap heap goalie.

Rochester sure could use him and he will get some NHL games in as top pair in Rochester

Yep. It will be interesting to see how many points it will take to make the playoffs in our division and the East in general. All three (Buff/Sens/Ott) will be tougher outs which will chip away at the point totals of those above them. Might see a lot of teams bunched up this year.

Yes I'm upset about the 7th overall, but just as worse is another team in the Atlantic that is putting together a helluva rebuild just added one of the best scorers in the NHL. Why why why do we have the worst luck

the Murray trade likely would not have prevented the Debrincat trade.

i disagree. They still have problems parts.

i have real doubts on Debrincat putting up 40+ goals there. I think he benefitted by playing with Kane.
