The realistic moves I would make to give the Sabres a shot at the playoffs.

Sign Braden Holtby
Trade for Mason Marchment
Trade for Connor Murphy
Trade away Olofsson

Skinner Thompson Tuch
Cozens Mittelstadt Quinn
Asplund Krebs Marchment
Peterka Girgs Okposo

Dahlin Samuelsson
Power Murphy
Bryson Joker

Holtby
UPL
Anderson
I think Holtby is the most likely to happen (15% chance).

I want a 4th line center! But I see them trying to shoehorn girgs into that role? (Was that a thing last year, I can’t remember)

No, they used Eakin/Jankowski at center mostly. Girgensons may have slid over for a couple of games, but they definitely preferred to have him at wing.

Everyone on Florida scored a lot. He's had one year of production on a heavy offensive team. I don't see a reason to risk for that. I guess it's always depending on price though
He’s also big + physical and had excellent underlying defensive numbers. You don’t sign him thinking he’s going to score at the pace he did this year. You sign him hoping for 40 points while bringing a physical presence and being very good defensively. That alone is worth $4m + term.

Yeah I'd take that. I just feel a little uneasy with a guy that could barely break 40 point pace in the AHL. I know can improve, but its a pretty odd timeline

I’m not paying $4M for him. im not sold on him. Where does he play on buffalo?

A.J. Greer is a player that interests me for similar reasons. He dominated the Amerks. He's still only 25.

Signing Marchment for an overpayment isn't a big deal unless it's more than 3 or 4 years, even if he doesn't put up the same production. He brings an edge we don't have.

If they sign him though, I think that should be the end of the acquisitions at forward. I'd prefer a center, of course, but he'd be a low risk improvement, so I couldn't really complain.

Who will he play instead? Adams won't block Quinn and Peterka.

I want to piggyback something on this: when it comes to someone playing regular minutes.........I think we've got room for ONE forward acquisition.

Mortal locks for the top 12: Tage, Skinner, Tuch, Cozens, Okposo, Mitts, Asplund, Olofsson, Girgensons (nine)
Battling for top 12 time: Krebs, Quinn, JJP, R2, *insert UFA here*
Forward 13/14: Malone, *insert UFA here* (Hayden?)
Hopefully banished to the shadow realm: Bjork

And when it comes to that one "major" forward acquisition: I want it to be someone who can regularly win faceoffs and PK. And also not be a black hole of suck at even strength. I also vastly prefer someone whose hair color isn't red for this role. A 3rd/4th liner, if you will.

I get what you're saying, but I think adding one guy is ok.

The simple answer to your question is whoever is hurt or gives the team the least chance to win on a given night. That could be anyone.
