Assuming the plan is for Vlad to play 1B/DH, and they don't think Biggio can defend or throw from 3rd, who would you target to be your full time 3B? I'd say 2 years for Justin Turner, but don't know why he would leave the Dodgers unless we overpaid. Can Semien play 3B? Either guy on a 2 year deal would buy enough time to see where Martin and Groshans end up settling in.

The other question is if Vlad and Teoscar DH the most on the team, what is Tellez's trade value? Or do you keep him for his LH bat?

Players who received qualifying offers;

Stroman - accepted
Gausman - accepted

LeMahieu - re-signed

Springer - Signed with the Jays
Realmusto - expected to re-sign

Bauer - ???

All players who received QOs either accepted, re-signed or is expected to re-sign with the exception of Springer and Bauer. The Reds arent re-signing Bauer.

Jays already lost their 2nd round pick and 500k allotted for the IFA signing period. If we sign Bauer or Relamuto we would only lose our 3rd round pick and 500k IFA money. So why not push to sign Bauer? Many teams dont want to spend money and want to save draft capital - so the Jays have less to lose if they sign Bauer or Realmuto.
I would for sure. We already have 6 top 100 prospects and a top 5-10 prospect pool. And we still.add another 1st round talent this year as well. Losing a 3rd rounder is worth it and can always trade for IFA pool.

We seem to find ways to sign cheap international guys that work out too, so just gotta keep finding those gems!

Whenever I see the $500,000 IFA slot penalty, it feel like a pretty hefty one. Then I remember that's what the Jays got in return for Kendrys Morales and Dwight Smith Jr. (each!) and... it doesn't seem like so much anymore.

Jeff Passan said on Tim and Sid and I’m paraphrasing; a free agent starting pitcher came to me (Passan) and said they can use one of us (a starting pitcher).

Implying there are free agent pitchers who want to sign with the Jays after the Springer signing.

Grich will now become a bench guy?
Assuming they don't sign another OF and trade him, seems fair. If all your OF starters play like 140 games, he could play 22 games filling in for all 3, that's 66 games right there. I'd say thats pretty important.

Of course, if they sign someone else and he ends up a 5th OFer, then he or someone else is likely traded.

I am assuming he'll play a fair bit because Gurriel can never stay healthy

Not likely the Jays plan nor ideal but at the moment Grichuk is in RF, Hernandez is DH, Vlad is at 3B and Tellez is at 1B. Everyone is in the lineup.

C Jansen
1B Tellez
2B Biggio
SS Bichette
3B Guerrero Jr.
RF Grichuk
CF Springer
LF Gurriel
DH Hernandez

It will be interesting too because at the moment we don’t have a bench unless we plan on using McGuire, Fisher, Espinal and Kirk again this season, which I doubt. I assume 3 of those guys don’t start on the Jays opening day roster.

OK, I guess there are still a few moves still to be made.

Vlad is not going to play 3B.

Vlad is not going to play 3B.

He’ll get a shot.

He looks crazy good, and has had a monster off-season.

It’s the right thing to do. When you have a guy that who has the drive to play 3B, that he has the off-season he did, you need to reward that.

It may not be long-term. But he’ll get a look

Guess we will find out if jays gwt a 3rd baseman or not. But he hard like 6 errors in winter ball

He was awful at 3B in the Domincan Winter League and was the worst qualified defensive 3B in 2019. The real question is whether or not he can stick at 1B.

The Jays dont neccesarily need to add a 3B. They can also sign a 2B and shift Biggio to 3B.
True. I just don't know if biggio has the arm for 3rd full time. I don't know. I don't get paid to make those decisions. I would just like to have someone who at least has some experience at the hot corner

Wouldn't mind Tanaka on a short term deal. His stats have been up and down too much over the last few seasons to commit long term.

Otherwise the pickings are slim. It's either him or Bauer for more top end pitchers and the rest are a bunch of B to C level signings.

Tijuan Walker would be another i'd be keen on bringing back assuming his ask isn't outrageous.

I'd wager Vlad has a better shot at 3B than Biggio, and I don't like Vlads chances sticking there at all. Biggio has arm and range limitations.

I think the point being made was if the season starts today, Vladdy is the everyday 3B. But don't expect them to leave that to be the case as I'm sure they have at least one or 2 infielders to still add in free agency. Perhaps only one if they really like Espinal.

I don’t think we need to trade for a 3b. Austin Martin or Jordan Groshans will be our third baseman at the end of the year (Bold prediction for 2021). Just need A temp stop gap free agent to bridge the gap. If we do sign an infielder More than 1 year it needs to be someone with positional flexibility.

I think number 2 pitcher to take pressure off Pearson and young arms is where most of our focus should be.
