I actually do think Hazel is being given way more rope than others would. Someone like Simmons misreported like that, he’d be absolutely vilified.

Simmons is an assclown and doesn’t deserve a benefit of the doubt.

It also wasn’t just Hazel. Probably close to ten or a dozen reporters/insiders said it was done. Some added in their own information as well.

We obviously don’t know the full story here. Was there never a deal close? Was there a deal done and Brantley had a change of heart? Failed physical? Brantley gave Houston a chance to match?

We don’t know. Because literally all of those things have been reported since

Rosenthal's been slipping lately. Didn't he also report that Hand was signing with the Mets last week? And then there was that springer 70 percent chance to sign with the Jays tweet yesterday when Springer was already landing in Dunedin and many others already reported it was done...

While Simmons might not have been the best example, fact of the matter is it is all about reporting facts. Likability has little to do with it. Unfortunately these days, jumping the gun and being the first beats the old school style of only reporting things once they are confirmed.

Obviously calling for her firing is excessive and really, she screwed up. Big deal. But her, or anybody's, credibility takes a hit in a situation like this. Will people trust her the next time? I really don't care, because I'm not on social media and thus not hang in the balance waiting for every tweet. But I'm sure some will question, moreso joke, next time if she has it right.

the royals won with a ridiculous BP a few years back. If we can get hand and have a dynamite BP, then maybe just an oddorizi and a paxton/tanaka or whatever second/third tier pitching options can be effective for us to go on a deep run.

Sure, especially if they go with a tandem approach with young-starters in the pen. Hatch, Borucki, Kay, Merryweather, Murphy.
Could be viable.

Until the team themselves announce a signing, nothing is official. You should never be surprised when a reported deal doesn’t take place. Seems pretty simple to me,

Blue Jays signed RHP Kirby Yates to a one-year, $5.5 million contract.

The deal contains $4.5 million in performance incentives based on games pitched. If he gets into 35 games this year with the Jays, the salary will climb to $8.5 million. And if he appears in 70 games, he can earn a full $10 million.

Rosenthal's been slipping lately. Didn't he also report that Hand was signing with the Mets last week? And then there was that springer 70 percent chance to sign with the Jays tweet yesterday when Springer was already landing in Dunedin and many others already reported it was done...

Also said Yates was $8.25 million plus incentives shortly before Davidi corrected that it was $5.5 million with up to $4.5 million in incentives. Those aren't even really close.

Guys make mistakes all the time, and I completely get it. Sometimes you get bad information from a generally trustworthy source. Whatever. But you're right on Rosenthal... he seems to have gone from being THE guy for baseball rumours to just another one of the main guys.

Players who received qualifying offers;

Stroman - accepted
Gausman - accepted

LeMahieu - re-signed

Springer - Signed with the Jays
Realmusto - expected to re-sign

Bauer - ???

All players who received QOs either accepted, re-signed or is expected to re-sign with the exception of Springer and Bauer. The Reds arent re-signing Bauer.

Jays already lost their 2nd round pick and 500k allotted for the IFA signing period. If we sign Bauer or Relamuto we would only lose our 3rd round pick and 500k IFA money. So why not push to sign Bauer? Many teams dont want to spend money and want to save draft capital - so the Jays have less to lose if they sign Bauer or Realmuto.
