So we have tweets like this and then Hazel and Ken Rosenthal saying that a 3 year deal was confirmed. Based on the 2 year deal he got, I imagine had we offered 3 years and $45 million we would have gotten it done. Doesn't seem like we did though?

B. Whichever trade we had lined up (OF for pitching help?) to correspond with signing Brantley fell through.

I was conflicted as Brantley is a great fit at the plate being LH and gets on base but a poor current fit positionally unless a trade happens.

Hopefully they pivot to fill the hole at SP and 3B.

Olney's the only one saying they weren't close. So who knows how true it is without more confirmation.

And really, this just exposes the issue with social media as the driving force of the rumor mill. Even with Springer last night most reporters weren't necessarily doing their own research to verify what's been happening. They've just seen someone else in the field say something and have jumped up to use that to spread the story themselves. I imagine most of the people who were calling the deal done were just doing so because Hazel said it and not because they had any more information. Largely because the biggest driver in the twittersphere of baseball news is speed. It's easier to get ahead of something and post a retraction later if you're wrong than it is to do due diligence and find yourself 20-30 minutes behind the crest of the wave.

Unfortunately he has always had pretty extreme reactions to news, performance, etc. This reaction is par for the course.
