I love how I made a joke about being worried about the Springer deal being false to one of my friends and then that exact thing happened with the Brantley deal :laugh: might've jinxed it guys my bad...
 
I cant believe all of you are getting bent out of shape on this Brantley contract. Im telling you its done.

Jays are focusing at this moment on the domino move that will need to take place for this signing to happen. Their 40 man roster for one is full. So players need to be removed to add Brantley. Also, there are multiple options the team is sifting through before deciding on a deal.

Rome wasnt built in one day my fellow Jays fans. Patience is a virtue.

I agree with this. It'll be announced in a day or two once a trade is finalized or the physical is done.

Not too concerned.

Just wondering...if the jig is up, why not just come clean and announce the deal? Why continue to be coy about it if they have already lost leverage with their potential trading partner? Or are they trying to regain leverage by retracting the announcement of the signing?

Interesting situation in any case.

Edit: nevermind, you just posted the issue with the 40 man roster above. That makes sense.

Other people confirmed it with their own sources as well right after Hazel.

Donaldson wasn't a hitter who would swing out of his shoes like Jose and EE would. Not to mention he won an MVP with less power numbers, something neither Jose or EE were close to winning in their careers.

why not go crazy this would be the year to do it

1. lots of teams are budget conscious especially large market teams and Rogers probably had a record year with everyone needing devices or services.
2. There is no cap in baseball just a luxury tax to pay if you decided to go all in. This not the NHL no cap
3. Rogers would finally act like a big market and the fans when they get back will come back in droves to the ball park which will results in increased revenue and then the associated revenue of advertisers paying more on the Jays telecast which goes directly into Rogers pocket as they won the TV station and team so they can hid it wherever they want for balance sheet purposes.
4. Signal to fans we are committed to bringing in a winner and shed the cheap label.

It's not our money and those with Rogers services will pay an increase so Rogers can recoup those costs lol.

Give the fans more build on the positive vibes. Fill the holes that are left over and if you do it in FA you don't need to touch your top level farm system and it can be used mid season or to replace guys especially in the rotation year after year.

Donaldson was arguably the 2nd best player in baseball from 2013-2016, Bautista at his peak was probably top 5-10. I don't think anyone is saying that Donaldson isn't the better player comparing peaks. As for not coming close...Bautista finished 4th and 3rd in MVP voting from 2010-2011 (7 WAR and 8.3 WAR respectively). The guys finishing above him both years all played on playoff teams which also affects voting by the media. If you put 2010-2011 Bautista on that 2015 team he probably wins MVP over Donaldson.

EE was in their tier of hitting but playing 1B hampers him in this comparison to a 3B and RF.
