Lots of insiders calling this a great pick-up. At some point one of them should find out the actual details on the deal to know for sure, ha. I would like to know the terms.

Perhaps the fact have not heard anything means an incentive based 1 year deal?
I would anticipate that it is indeed an incentive based one year deal. I personally do not see an option being included unless it is one of those mutual ones that never get exercised but include a small buyout either way. Yates would likely be best served trying to establish his value on a one year deal and then aiming for a significant 2 year deal next offseason if he regains anything resembling his 2018-2019 form. If I had to guess, his deal will come in around 5-8M guaranteed plus incentives.

With Jays recent signings and excluding Yates which is an unknown. Their payroll sits at around 78 million. They can easily sign Springer, Realmuto and Bauer. And still be under the salary number of 187 million that was the max Rogers paid for the 2015 and 2016 teams.

Give them 25-30 million each a year on 4-5 year deals and call it a day. You don’t have to pay Guerrero, Bichette and Biggio for another 4-5 years anyways. And contracts like Grichuk, Ryu and others will be off the books by then.

They can but I also don't like the idea of putting all the eggs into one basket during one free agency when next year's crop is a lot better.

Your not going to get a better catcher next year. There aren’t better pitchers in their prime next season either coming up. And there won’t be a better CF either. There will be SS and 3B available. But we are set at short with Bichette and we will have a 3B in a couple of seasons with Groshans anyways.

Not to mention we have less competition this year for FA due to pandemic. Do you pounce this year. Cause next season we will be hard pressed to beat teams to free agents with Yankees, Boston, LA teams and Philly spending.

I could see them signing two of those three(very unlikely I think) but all three does limit what they could do next off-season if other holes popup. I don't think the Sox will be spending a lot because they just started their rebuild. Furthermore, teams won't be getting much revenue even this year because stadiums won't be full for at least a few more months.

He is a nobody, but with a tweet like this, he is a somebody for now.

I'm not even sure who the hell this guy is supposed to be to have any sort of clout to tweet that.

EDIT: in browsing his last few days of tweets he appears just to be some schmo fan that spends a lot of time retweeting reporter news tweets and providing unsolicited opinions to his 1,300 followers.

Even if it turns out Springer does sign with the Jays this guy should get no fame/respect because by all appearances this isn't him providing insider information, it's him taking a stab in the dark and lucking into being right.

If I say right now that it's going to rain tomorrow without reviewing a weather report or looking out my window and it does rain tomorrow it doesn't make me a meteorologist or a prophet.

If it comes out tonight that it is true, he will be a legend.

That's what he'll be banking on. A lot of people have "cred" online after calling a trade at one point or another. So now you tend to see a lot of confirmations from sources pop up once smoke starts around a move
