I agree it's always nice to see the positive feedback publicly from players. I think the other players take that a lot more seriously than when some journalist complements facilities

It is nice...but players don't realize it until they come here and play for the Blue Jays. They just see Canada and a lot of red flags.

IMO, that's why this team has always been way more successful in trading for talent then acquiring it via UFA. Once you have an elite team, older players that want a ring will sign for 1 year.

It's funny because Toronto is very comparable to the 'world class' cities in the states and they are here from April-October which is amazing

That’s not strong evidence of any criminal offence. Depends on what the “victim” states. For harassment to be considered, the victim needs to have a legitimate fear of the offender and also needs to let that person know that what they are doing is harassing them. Just being silent is not enough for a charge to be approved. The offender would not be charged as he would not have known that what he was doing was harassing the victim. At least that’s how it works here in Canada. As for stalking, not a chance either. Stalking needs to be that guy finding out where she lives and being outside her house or following her to work or home etc. None of what I have now read would be a criminal charge in Canada. Doesn’t look like he was charged anyways unless I’m missing something. Just unprofessional and inappropriate. I mean the guy should have got a hint when she wasn’t responding with heart emojis or reciprocating the behaviour but I guess he had quite the crush on her. Yikes.

A: harassment isn't always a criminal offence. B: harassment is any unwanted extended attention. The recipient doesn't have to be scared for it to be harassment.

Absolutely! Some player signs in Milwaukee, Detroit, or some Amerian city outside of NY or LA and it's because it "American and close to home" but Toronto and Canada is just too different? Lol

Athletes are not the smartest bunch for sure lol

Yeah let's live in Detroit and be so happy.

The funniest part is only New York (which also has the same climate as Toronto) and L.A are larger than Toronto. We are the 3rd largest media market as well I believe.

But let's play in Milwaukee because is Merrica lol

Why should he be fired for sexting someone? Who cares, most people have done this.
Unfortunately, he decided to attach a photo of his j*nk to the final unsolicited message. He's done... as he should be.

Read up on the criminal code of Canada. I think I should know since I am a police officer.

I think there can be a difference between an act of harassments that can get one fired and the crime of harassment. I don't think you need to reach the levels of the crime to be fired for the act.

I agree. I’m just saying what he did was not a criminal offence. It was stupid, unprofessional and a fireable offence. Just saying he won’t be charged criminally. It’s not criminal harassment as defined in the criminal code. It doesn’t meet the elements of the offence.

I really hope the latest rumors that have been stated hold true. That they are aggressively pursuing Springer, Bauer and Realmuto. Maybe they are under the gun from ownership to get things done. But from the sounds of it, they have stepped up their approach.

Imagine landing all 3?! That would be insane. I guess they could afford to because then they could move out salary attached to guys like Jansen. Jansen plus Roark to a team needing a catcher. Or Jansen, Grichuk and Roark off to a team for cap space.

The Jays have 75 million committed to they team. Ultimately they can and have spend upward of 175 million in the past. I understand that they need to keep room for players like Guerrero, Bichette and Biggio in the future. But there is no reason why like you said that they cant sign all 3 while shedding salary elsewhere.

Players like Grichuk, Roark and Jansen (although little) can be shed. But ultimately signing someone like Springer for 25 million a season can be offset by dealing Grichuk and Roark which make the same amount. The other two players (Realmuto and Bauer) should cost more the 50 million a season combined. That brings us to 125 million in payroll this season.

I think it is a reality that this can get done. Its a matter of the Jays putting their money where their mouth is.

These guys are regular people and Canada is a foreign country. It might seem stupid to you, but if the money is comparable, would you want to move to a foreign country when you don't have to? That's kind of the main thing here: comfort with what you know, versus the uncertainty of a foreign country. Most people are going to choose what they already know as opposed to what they don't know, especially in this scenario wherein these guys are all millionaires and already living like kings: why go do that in a foreign country when you have the exact same things and live under the exact same luxury in your own country? Moving to Canada presents unnecessary inconveniences for them that they can avoid entirely by taking the same deal in their own country.

The same "stigmas" that these guys have about Canada is reiterated by your average Canadian person's "stigmas" about US cities. Most people who complain about US born players not wanting to move to Canada don't understand that. Ask your average Canadian about the thought of moving to America and they'd tell you things like "you can't even go to the doctor or get medical treatment!", "there's racists everywhere!", etc, etc. regardless of the fact that it's pretty much the same shit in both countries.

Just like fans of... you know... every sports team. People are stupid.

Sure but the idea that the Jays are this 'first class/elite' organization is absurd

- Made the playoffs twice in the past 28 years (if you want to count last year feel free)
- Fans don't show up when the team is trash
- Fans throw beer at opposition players when the team is good (yes, this only happened once, but to counter that the Jays have only played like 10 meaningful home games in the last 28 years)
- Two of the most (if not the two most) high-profile incidents related to homophobia on the field in past decade

Like the Mets are usually a tire fire, but let's not get all uppity here.

Cant believe we have people in this form calling Jays fans trash!!! That is funny. Try going to watch a sporting event in Philly, Buffalo, Detroit, New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Boston or Cleveland. Places I have been to for various sporting events including baseball. They are trash. Your scared for your life considering what you are surrounded by.

Toronto is the most subdue crowd I have been a part of for sporting evens. Yes you have a few strays but majority of the fans are respectful.

I can see your point.

I was born in California and live in Toronto. So as a dual citizen I chose Canada as it has a better quality of life (outside of California sunshine lol)

I would also guess most guys in the league have played in Canada and have an idea (although a tiny sample size) of what kind of city Toronto is.

They don't deal with passports or security as the team deals with it for them, so travel is easy.

I work as an accountant and even the money is easy to keep if they have good financial people, as I assume they do.

I would assume as multi millionaire athletes the transition would be SOOO easy in comparison to the average person.

The last point is the are still playing MLB baseball.

I mean, I'd think a history of a lack of organizational success would be the dwarfing factor. Throwing the fanbase under the bus is a bit harsh, since you expect sports fans to be idiots.

Look at the Raps, they have always struggled to get free agents. Even as a franchise that had a 6 year run of consistency at the top of the east. The perception of the first 20 years is hard to wash off. The trash Raps fans (the ones that cheered after KD went down and harassed the Curry family, for example) are likely a virtual non-factor. Otherwise, the Celtics and Jazz would never be able to keep anyone lol.

This.

Not to mention having family/friends being able to visit based the stigma that Americans have about getting passports (and to a lesser extent, the effect of having a criminal record).

Yes, the lack of success and the Canada factor are like 90% of the equation, if not more.

The Jays fare better than the Raps on the Canada side since at least you're only here for the summer.

Harassment and criminal harassment isn't the same thing though. If I sent you a text message every morning, afternoon, and evening saying hi, I'm harassing you. But I'm not criminally harassing you. One is just annoyance, the other is, well, a crime. Although generally after a couple of days, one would figure out "hey, they don't actually wanna talk to me".
