From 2018-2019 Kirby Yates was atop the list of reliever fWAR in the entire league. While this front office has had plenty of success signing relievers for bargain deals (and often getting assets for them), this is significantly different from bringing in someone like John Axford or Daniel Hudson.
I’d agree if he was healthy last season and younger. 33 and coming back from arm problems could be a issue.

All fair points but he’s also 33 and coming back from injury. Not the easiest thing to do as you get older.
Also true. I’m hoping at worst he remains an elite K option. I might not be totally comfortable with him as the # 1 BP option but he can certainly have use as another bullet in the late inning chamber.

Yeah, I don’t mind it at all (unless the contract details are ludicrous).

It's amazing. Everyone has been complaining that we haven't gotten anyone this off season and now that we might be getting one of the top relievers in the game the last 3 out of 4 years with last season being the one bad year which he was injured is ridiculous. Yates would be a huge addition to our pen and would really solidify our bullpen

Coming off the surgery, hopefully it's more money just on a one year deal or a 2 year deal at a lower price with incentives to make it more.

So Bauer and Realmuto for me.
Trade Jansen + Roark (eat some money) for a vet UFA to be 3B?
Allows for Groshans to maybe get some games in?

Bauer at 6 years and 30ish million?
Realmuto apparently right around the Springer offer.

I guess we should find out soon how Yates' elbow looks by sometime later today. Almost seems like a done deal pending physical. Hopefully he is healthy because he could be helpful.

If Yates does end up signing here...would he be considered our closer?
He has closer stuff for sure and most proven closer pedigree on the team. Comes down to health I would say. I'd be fine adding even one more arm with high leverage potential and see which one of them, Yates, Romano or Dolis starts the year hot.

A few points I want to make:

1. Chatwood signing is a good one. He has a power arm and potentially can turn into a Hendriks type reliever with the proper coaching. Hendriks was a failed starter which turned into a dominant reliever. The possibility of Chatwood turning into the same is highly possible. Can hit 97mph, similar to Hendriks with a high strikeout rate.

2. Mets GM being fired is a blessing for the Jays. Why would Springer want to sign on with another team that has issues internally. Mets have proven time and time again to be a classless organization. Springer should stay as far away as possible from them considering the issues he went through with another classless organization in Houston.

3. The possible Yates signing would be a great deal. He would definitely be another power arm with a history of closing to put in the back of the bullpen. He along with Romano, Dolis and now Chatwood gives the Jays 4 power arms. Good signing if it can get done.

Would be great if they can add Brad Hand to Yates to get an elite lefty in the pen. Then the need for a Bauer level starter diminishes and they can focus on adding Paxton-types to help the rotation.

The way Springer acted last year, after they busted the Astros...I don't think he'd care signing with the Mets. People will eventually forget about that GM, if / when that team starts winning. He wants to get paid.

Why would that change Springer’s mind? The organization dealt with it quickly and appropriately. The owner has come out and said the team will act with integrity and he means it. Shows they’re going to be diligent and professional. Not like they knew about dick pics from 2016.

I don't agree with point 2. If anything it makes you want to commend the Mets for taking swift action. Regardless of who is leading an organization, with Springer, it's geography.

I personally wouldnt want to be involved in another circus like the Mets if I just went through what I did with Houston.

First Cano with his addiction to steroids. Now this with their GM. I would want to stay as far away as possible from that team. If dollars are close or better from the Jays I go there.

First class organization for a country that is full of classy and respectful people. We know how to treat our stars and run a tight ship. We dont as an organization put up with crap, we only employ the best people and he would have an opportunity to be a piece to something special if not the piece.

No brainer for me.

From Taijuan's Fangraph's chat:

"I feel like the Blue Jays are pretty far ahead of the game with all the technology, all the data, and the way they set it up. They’re really prepared. Pete Walker is amazing. I wish I’d have had more time to work on stuff with him."

I can't believe Roark is making more than half of what Ryu earns. It's only for one more year, but my gosh that contract is valueless.

Given that he's an American that wants to be close to home, Canada is a negative, as it is for most players.

Great to get this reputation as an organization. If they start winning, it will hopefully carry enough credibility that it can overcome any classic blue jay drawbacks for free agents

He may come back if he doesnt get offers to his liking. Him speaking of such about the organization only bodes well for the Jays and prospective free agents. Hopefully Bauer is reading his posts. And Price's .

I agree it's always nice to see the positive feedback publicly from players. I think the other players take that a lot more seriously than when some journalist complements facilities
