Big K% with 96 mph fastball. That screams pen arm to me. Fastball can get up to 97-99mph. Good signing if so.

As the resident Cubs fan on this board boy, this is bad for the Jays. He was terrible as a Cub. Well, it makes sense if you think about it. Rogers told Shapiro they have some money to spend so he took that and gave himself a 5-year deal and spent all that money on himself lol.

Jays are my 1B team so this is not a good move unless he is a long guy in the bullpen but the Jays have tons of those guys already.

Well, he could he converted to strictly a reliever and increase his velocity even more. No one has tried it really so no idea if it will work.

Reliever making $3M. Can’t complain.

There is your spin right stat.

I mean... Patino is better than most of those guys. It's not like they kept ALL of their top prospects.

The Toronto Blue Jays continue to show serious interest in star free agent George Springer and are believed to be making a push for the outfielder, according to industry sources.

Springer, 31, is thought to be the top free agent target for a Blue Jays team intent on improving this winter. The sides were expected to re-connect early this week and may have already done so, industry sources said.

Springer has been reported to prefer the Mets because of their proximity to his home state of Connecticut, but his interest in the Blue Jays is believed to be genuine, with Toronto posing little or no obstacle.

Fastball: Pearson (80)

Even though he struggled a bit in the big leagues and missed time with a flexor strain in his elbow, the fastball was still as impressive as it’s always been. It averaged 96.3 mph and topped out at 101.5 mph during his time with Toronto, and he averaged an impressive 2,300 rpm spin rate on the four-seamer.

For me, if we sign Springer I know there's a relatively decent chance that contract gets ugly almost right away. If for no reason other than the number of FAs that immediately see a dip in production after signing.

Having said that, I'm still hoping to see the Jays sign Springer. First because it's another asset, but also because it's a good culture move to inject another win-now piece.

Finished second again!

Also Vladdy is younger than 55 players on the top 100 list.

This level of drafting and developing is REALLY impressive. It's one of the primary reasons I'd have been upset to see Shapiro leave without Cherington still in the fold

I like the signing, but it's interesting to me that the "big K%" is so new for him. He had really bad K-rates is whole career (in the 7 k/9 range), then improved in 2019 (up around 8.5, easily a career best), then went nuts in a small sample in 2020 (over 12!)

That's actually what I like about the signing, though: there are glimpses of what he's capable of, but he hasn't done it enough to be overly expensive.

Management has also done a great job finding cheap, undervalued relievers the last few years.

Also so we don't have to see anymore snarky comments about Toronto/Canada on twitter or mlbtraderumors comment section.

Jared Porter gets hired, signs and trades for everyone then likely gets fired a month later this this. What a weird GM career.

Edit: Checking his Wikipedia page did not disappoint.
