That is a fantastic return for Lindor and Cararsco so far.

Gimenez was a top 30 prospect in 2019 and he was on pace for 4 fWAR season in 2020 if he had 650 PAs in his rookie year as a 22 year year. Cleveland has their starting SS for the next 6 years. Wolf is a 2nd round pick (#36 ranked draft prospect) from 2019 and Greene (62nd draft ranked prospecr) is a 2nd round pick from 2020. The Mets 9th and 10th ranked prospects.

That is like the Jays giving up Groshans, Brown and Van Eyk for Lindor and Carrasco.

EDIT: And Rosario. Good for Cleveland.

I'm going to stay extremely optimistic but if we dont make any truly significant moves this offseason, I'll be pretty dissapointed and I think many other Jays fans would agree.

Maybe this Mets deal makes Springer or Bauer to the Jays more realistic (still think he probably ends up with the Angels).

I’d do that deal in a heartbeat. If we keep Martin then I’m fine moving Groshans. And Van Eyk and Brown are hardly sure things. 3 years of Carrasco plus Lindor would re-sign and be an incredible add on offence and defence.

Finally we have some action, sucks we wont be getting Lindor or Carassco but so be it. A lot of offseason left.

Do the Mets got as hard after Springer and Bauer now?
My guess is they would be out on at least Bauer as their pitching rotation when healthy includes all of the following:

- Jacob deGrom
- Noah Syndergaard
- Carlos Carrasco
- Marcus Stroman

While Lindor would’ve been nice, I am more than content with Bichette and Biggio as our middle IF for a long time.

Springer is the biggest need. Realmuto would be a good upgrade as well.

Well there's always Story, Seager and Correa next year if they wanna go down that road again. I wonder what else the Jays would've needed to offer on top of Gurriel to top that offer.

I imagine the Jays front office either has no intention of dealing Gurriel or they did not get a great feeling they could sign Lindor long-term. Or both. Which, if it is the latter, then I am very much OK not trading for a pure rental.

Yeah not me. No urgency to make that deal with our window wide open for Lindor with 1 year. I would have done it for Gurriel, but not Groshans plus more. I like Carrassco but he has an injury and durability history - there are comparable arms on the market that can be had for nothing but money.

Unlike most I am ecstatic that the Mets got Lindor and Carrasco. The rest of you should be as well.

Lindor will not be cheap which means no matter how loaded Cohen is , being fiscally responsible is a must during these times. Yes they can add as they have and will continue, but the uncertainty moving forward does hamstring them moving forward. This can also be pointed to signing McCann instead of Realmuto. If money was not an issue Realmuto should be a Met right now.

With all this being said. They have been lowballing Springer and Bauer up until now. We know why now. Lindor was in the works for sometime. So are they both in the running to be signed still? I think not. Not only did they acquire Lindor in the deal but also Carrasco which is worth 16 million per the next 2 seasons. Does this rotation look like they will sign Bauer:

DeGromm
Stroman
Carrasco
Lugo
Petersen
Gsellman
Matz
Synderguard

My prediction is players like Springer and Bauer are closer to becoming Jays then they were yesterday.

But Lindor wouldn’t have been a rental. I thought insiders were saying a while back that Lindor would have no issues signing with the Jays? Anyways it’s all moot. Good deal for the Mets I think.

I can see it now. We tried hard to sign guys but we feel confident Roark can fill that number 2 slot behind Ryu.
The gap between not getting a big name FA and Roark is massive. So many more second tier names in there on the FA market and trade block

I still see the Mets getting Springer. And Angels landing Bauer.

Reports of signing an extension is different then actually signing one. If it came with an extension then its different but even then you are looking at $300M over 10 years. Not a huge fan of that.

All these deals being done via trade will put pressure on FA to sign. Teams are showing them that they would rather make trades right now instead of signing them to the contracts they are seeking.

This may work well in the Jays favor. For example, if Springer is looking for a 5 yr deal in 150 million range. But teams like the Mets are only offering 20 million per season. The Jays can offer 25 million per season as we will always need to pay a premium to get him signed. Is a free agent like Springer willing to go 10 million a season less (what hes seeking) to play for the Mets? Or 5 million less to play for the Jays?

If im Springer, the Mets landing Lindor and Carrassco look much more attractive to me. Probably why the Mets want to get this deal done. Maybe Springer takes less to sign with the Mets now.
Ya I think they land him. He wants to play there and he sees this huge improvement. Him and Lindor in that lineup with that pitching? Instant contenders.
